I thought I’d throw this ‘oddity’ into the mix. Many (most?) of us are beyond pregnancy days, yours or your s/o, but tagging onto the ‘food oddity’ thread, I thought pregnancy cravings might be fun!
I didn’t have any cravings when I was pregnant, however, I clearly remember my mother telling me she craved coal!!! Apparently, when she was pregnant with me, she’d frequently gnaw on lumps of coal! My sister spent many a happy hour chewing pieces of raw meat - ugh!
I couldn’t get enough red colored sweet things: watermelon, strawberries, Swedish Fish, and one day I ate a jar of maraschino cherries (not a small one, either!).
Not a usual craving (I really didn’t have many or very often) but I literally left work ASAP once to get chocolate milk. I downed it the moment I hit the parking lot. My hands were practically shaking I wanted it so badly. Opened the carton and just gulped it in…
And keeping with the orange theme, I couldn’t stop eating tortilla chips with that god-awful frito-lay’s jalapeno cheese dip (the orange cheese in can). With sour cream.
I could not stomach any pasta with a creamy sauce and I used to eat it regularly
I absolutely had to have sparkling water, which wasn’t available as readily 25 yrs ago. . My husband had to go out and get it in the middle of the night. Probably a sodium thing
I didn’t have cravings so much as aversions. All I could keep down was plain pancakes, Ritz crackers, chicken nuggets and chocolate milkshakes. That lasted pretty much the entire pregnancy. That is why I only have one kid. Lol
If I even sniffed peanut butter (a staple in my diet before pregnancy), it was all over. Crazy thing is my son hates peanut butter, always has.
I had to decide before I went into the grocery store what I needed most and head to that second first because I never knew how long I’d last. The smells were overpowering and I often had to leave. So if I needed fruit, I headed there. TP? Milk? Cheese? Go there first.
I cleaned my refrigerator constantly because I was sure something in there smelled. Never found it.
I didn’t have cravings so much as aversions. With both kids I could not go near the raw poultry aisle, actually the whole meat but especially poultry. Could not eat it cooked.
With DD, I could only stomach sweet things or plain carbs. Lots of Cheerios and fruit cocktail and plain pasta.
With my first pregnancy I craved watermelon, pickles and lemonade. Not only craved, but that’s about the only thing I could stomach for the first four months. Non particular cravings with my second.
