So my friends are starting to get their acceptances… First red flag to me: One friend who only submitted her app and documents LAST WEEK got her acceptance today. She’s an average honors student. Another friend also got in today, top 10 in her class (different HS than me).

I finished my app and had everything sent in by September 5th, but still no acceptance. I have a 35 ACT and 3.95 unweighted GPA, Tampa, FL resident… I thought maybe it had something to do with me applying for summer 2012 instead of fall, but I see there are already some summer acceptances posted here.

I know some colleges don’t like when they are your safety (because they figure you wouldn’t matriculate because you’ll likely get into a better school), so is it possible that this is their fear with me?

I’m just confused because I would assume they do the apps in order, starting with summer applicants. So far the people I know that have been admitted 1) submitted their apps after me and 2) applied for fall, not summer. I’m sure I shouldn’t be worried as it is still just the beginning of their admissions process, but I just wanted to voice this concern somewhere.

One thing is for sure-- there is no rhyme or reason to the order in which they send out decisions. I’ve never been able to figure it out. Here is the 2012 eligibility grid from the website, though:

http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/pdf/counselor-grid.pdf

You can use this to figure out what your decision may be, but you sound like a strong applicant. Other than that, just be patient and try not to psych yourself out! I imagine they have a LOT of applications to sort through already. :)

So after more than a month now, I talked to my counselor and she recommended that I e-mail the admissions officer that came to our school a few weeks ago for an info session. I e-mailed him asking him if something is missing from my application or if there’s a step I failed to do. He actually called me back within less than an hour and told me that my stats and application are not the issue whatsoever, but that I applied for summer instead of fall. He said the USF summer term is more intended for the lower-caliber students and that somebody like me would have no business in the summer because none of the courses would be appropriate/applicable for/to me. He said if I have no special reason for requesting summer (I didn’t; I actually would now prefer fall), then to fill out the application update form, which I did today. He told me to send it to him directly and that he could get me a decision within 24 hours. Really liking the quality of assisstance/communication at USF now. :)

Moral of the story: Yes, it sometimes takes time to get decisions and responses but if it’s been a really long time and MANY people who applied after you are getting their decisions before you, it should be grounds for you to check up on your application. Imagine if I was missing a component (even though OASIS reflected everything was received)… I could’ve been SOL if there was an upcoming deadline or something.

Who is the admissions person you emailed bc I am having this issue as well

Kyle,

If you’re in Hillsborough, Pasco, or Pinellas county, go here - [Undergraduate Admissions Homepage - Undergraduate Admissions at the University of South Florida](http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/) - and in the drop-down menu on the left select your school. Otherwise, I’d call or e-mail the admissions office.

It does no good for you to e-mail the person I e-mailed as he is the admissions officer for the region that my high school is in.
