Premed planning and sophomore standing?

I have heard that many MDs regret never having taken the time to be young, so I considered taking a year off during college. I also plan to be sophomore standing:
-sophomore year, junior year, ONE YEAR OFF (study MCAT, volunteer,…), senior year.

Now is it more advisable to have a year of in the middle of the sequence or the end of the sequence (after senior year)?
How does med school regard taking a year off?
Should I avoid sophomore standing on matters of GPA, course cramming, experience?

Any comment on this would be very helpful, Thanks!

Also, can we take a semester off (to study the MCAt and volunteer) and pay half of the tuition for college for that year?

bump… good questions

1.) It would be better to take the year off at the end, so that when you apply you have three years of coursework on your transcript.

2.) A year off is fine.

3.) Obviously your tuition situation will depend on your school.
