premed???

My son is a History Major in the honors program. He is also listed on a course schedule as being in the Premed program, which he is not. Is this an oversight or because he took a lot of AP science classes that he got credit for?

Dear beach17 : While this could be a mistake, more than likely it was the case that your son indicated an interest in a pre-med track. Rest assured that such a label is far from binding and not tied to receiving credits from High School AP programs. As part of the Honors Program, your son will be exposed to some tremendously challenging and thought provoking materials. Both of my BC students are/were part of the Honors Program and both have benefitted from the liberal arts curriculum in addition to their “hard sciences” majors.

Being listed as premed just means that the premed office will send him e-mails of interest, i.e., meetings, and work/volunteer opportunities. If he has no interest in premed, he can e-mail the office and they will take him off of the list. If he never had an interest in premed, it could be a simple mistake which an e-mail to the premed office can fix.

I looked into this. It seems they place an open option on certain students so they have the opportunity to take that track if they like. Nothing binding, not considered a major but a program option.
