PreMeds--What good is 5 on Calc AP?

Do premeds still have to take Calc even if they got a 5 on the AP exam? I registered for Calc II at ArtSci Weekend, before I got my score. Do I get credits for the AP score even if I decide to take the class? Thanks.

Go the Math department page on the WUSTL webpage. It has info. about math placement/credit. From what I remember, you do get several credits and placement for a 5 on BC…So I guess to answer your question, you might not get credit for the Calc II class (since you are taking it for a grade) but I’m sure you get backlog credit for Calc 1 etc…I think you could also drop the Calc II class if you wanted.

There is no premed major. Everything depends what school you’re in. ArtSci, you need to take X units of science or math (I believe 8). Engineering depends on the major, but most make you take Calc 1-3.

Calc AB will give you 4 units for Calc 1. You’ll be able to take Calc 2 right away if so desired.

There are several medical schools - WUSTL Med being one of them - that require a year of math. Many schools do not accept AP credit, and I expect several schools to overlap. For those schools - and unfortunately you’d have to use a combination of the MSAR and webpages to identify them - then you’ll need to take the math in college.

If you were going to my school (where I did undergrad), I’d have advised you to take Calc III and Stats.
