I was wondering what are some of the pros and cons of going with prep companies vs. self-studying using the big ol’ blue book. Can they really offer anything that you couldn’t just read yourself from any prep book?

true, i am not a good self learner becasue there are a lot of distractions at my house, so i convinved my parent to put me in a prep course, but itcan be reall expensive. mine totalled alomst 3 grand for the prep course and books, maybe more.

Prep companies
Pros: Great for starting out on the SATs, more discipline to study, more attention and people to ask questions and work with, access to more material and questions, less distractions.
Cons: quite expensive, can be repetitive at times.

Self studying:
Pros: More specialized (if you take a course you have to go through a curriculum, where as self-studying allows you to just focus on your weaknesses), Cheaper, More flexibility (work 6 hours when you have lots of free time, 30 minutes when you’re really busy).
Cons: Requires discipline otherwise procrastination can result, and unless you have a friend or someone to help, you have no one to ask questions.
