So I get that the obvious answer to this question is “No, the only advantage a prep school could give you is better resources, but its still up to you to make the grades and engage in extracurriculars.” I had just read this article about how some companies are now asking for SAT scores from their applicants. http://www.businessinsider.com/goldman-sachs-bain-mckinsey-job-candidates-sat-scores-2014-3
It just got me thinking, is it ever, ever going to come up in life where a reputable high school diploma will advantage you in life? I know that it seems silly, but you could make the case that it is also silly to discriminate based on where someone got their college degree, but that happens quite often. What are your guy’s thoughts?
BTW, I’m getting my highschool diploma from the state of Florida since I am a homeschooler, so I’m not trying to act like I’m superior for having a prep school diploma or anything.
Most private schools are nothing more than vehicles to escape the riffraff. Why do so many people in Rye and Greenwich etc send their kids to private school? Status… No prep/private or other elite school is necessary better than any public. Many prep schools have cachet just like many colleges do. There are spoiled, wealthy and relatively unmotivated kids at even the very best prep schools. Everything is what you make of it.
A high school degree from anywhere is a credential you need to apply to college. That’s it.
There are reasons families choose a private school over a public one which can include everything from religious training to a particular sports program to learning support to curricular offerings.
They both mean the same thing: that you graduated high school. The difference is not in the diploma you get, but in the connections you make in a prep/ private school.
