Fun is Fun should DEFIANTLY write a book about prep schools ! I mean it’s been what 20 years since the last one ?? You seem to know everything!

Thanks Prez – you know, one of fif’s favorite flicks is The Defiant Ones, starring Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier.

“defiantly write” that one goes on my list of memorable typos too! What was the other from this site? “analizing”? yeah, that was it!

Oh, and newyorker22…is the ssat really a good predictor of sat scores? I ask because my son was thinking about taking the sat as an out-of-level test to try to qualify for a special program. All he needs is a 600 in either math or critical reading (won’t be math!!!) What would do you think that would be on the ssat? He wouldn’t take it until after all this application stuff is over with in January. I thought it might give him something to take his mind off admissions.

Wow! I am really psyched to see this thread. My third oldest son is passionate about football (and appears to be talented). He is presently a co-captain and his team is going to the play-offs. Our plan is for him to do a year at the local public high school. Mostly to grow academically. (His older brother is at NMH and he could never keep up with the work.)

I have started researching BS and their football records. Since he is more of an average to slightly above average student, I would never want to have him attend a school such as Hotchkiss even if he could get in because of football. I think it would be a disaster to have him attend a school that wasn’t a good fit academically as well as athletically.

Hotchkiss is probably the most talented team this year if you look their results and tough schedule.

The Class “A” title game will most likely feature Hotchkiss (favorite) and Andover if both teams take care of business in their last couple games.

BB&N is probably the class of the ISL this year.

Just an interesting note (this might be the first time this has ever happened in Andover history)
Every single Andover boys and girls varsity team defeated their Deerfield opponents on October 25th. The previous weekend, Andover won every matchup against NMH.

Does anyone know anything about Proctor or Lawrence academy. They have both had good seasons for the last couple years, but I’m not sure how competetive the other teams they play are.

Do colleges recruiters generally check out most prep schools or only the best?

As you’ve probably deduced, Proctor plays in the Evergreen, and Lawrence in the ISL. Of the two, the Evergreen will see the fewest players move on to the next level and a college scout will only usually appear to see a particular player. In fairness, this is more or less true throughout NE prep football. Lawrence plays at the top-level of the ISL for the most part. If you want to see scouts it will have to be at a big Founders League (hockey) or West I (lacrosse) game where you can see 10+ at a game.

I’d say it matters more about who you play than what team you are playing in. Try and find the right school thats in a league where you’ll get noticed and has a reasonably competitive schedule.

Interesting info. My older son is a lax player at NMH. We were surprised at the number of kids who have been and are being recruited by top lacrosse colleges in spite of a pretty mediocre season. THis may be because they are in the correct league.

So any opinion what league is the best for football… (I know that the local public might be better, but a quality education is important too.)

Alright I know this may be slightly biased considering that Sports Illustrated was founded by a Hotchkiss grad but still chechk it out: (it’s not everyday a prep school team gets into SI)

And, here is an article from SI on the Andover/Exeter football rivalry.

The game is being streamed live from Andover’s website now.

(The typo is from SI’s page title.)

Blair is a wonderful school and has a great football program - they boast an undefeated record this year 8-0 as MAPL Champions - winning games against Hun, Hill, Philips Exeter.

as a parent, my advice is for you to focus on a school with the best fit for you. my son and i had this discussion before he picked a school last spring. he opted for the school with a less regarded program for one with highly regarded academics. he is very happy with his decision even though his football team had a tough season.

nhsportsdad - That is excellent advice. I was just looking to see if there were schools that we may have missed.

Blair sounds like a great school. I wouldn’t let his older brother apply to Lawrenceville ( I couldn’t stand the thouht of driving through the traffic of NYC every time we visited), so not sure if I can justify letting this one apply to Blair. We’ll have to visit. My son loves NMH and we are hoping that the new turf field will draw some interest from other football players.

We also plan on visiting avon, Salisbury and Trinity Pawling.

warriorboy, one of my college buddies has a junior at NMH. he is a great football player and plays hoops as well. it has been a tough football career but a highlight was the winning catch against exeter this year in an upset win. my son would not look at any all boys schools.

The Exeter verses NMH game was incredibly exciting this year. Is your friend’s son (at NMH) getting any attention from college coaches?

Georgetown Prep used to rock at football, then they were kicked out of their league (for being too good).

I’m not sure about now, heard they’ve been a touch rocky.

…Oh, looks like they’re having an ok season, after all:[Georgetown Prep football team tries to get rid of the streaks](http://www.gazette.net/stories/10142008/rockspo210837_32474.shtml)

Does anyone know what the time commitment is like for football players at the various schools? For my son’s public school, training begins in early Spring for the following fall season, continues over summer, and often is twice a day. During the season, practices are every day for about 2 1/2 hours. I wonder how athletes would manage with a rigorous academic schedule. I know that different sports make varying demands on a student’s time, swimming and football being the most demanding at our school. Anyone know what it’s like at particular schools?

New England Finals this year is Hotchkiss VS Proctor Academy. SOmewhat dissapointing i had really hoped Andover would have played Hotchkiss but it was not to be… oh well next year. I hope Hotchkiss wins !!
