Hmm. Are you thinking I’m explaining away his behavior? Because I am 99% sure he’s guilty, but I can see where men might be more likely to believe that he was a bumbling beginner because at least one of them probably was, too.
Sure, I’m the mother of a son. I’m also a woman who has led a woman’s life and vividly remembers what it was like to be a teen, a college student, a young graduate, etc. And I’m a feminist.
In these cases I try to be fair and rational and listen to the actual evidence without assuming guilt on anyone’s part. There are plenty of people who jump right in and assume guilt. I haven’t seen anyone accusing them of blind stupidity and intellectual dishonesty because they may be the parents of daughters.
I am, in fact, generally disgusted by the way many men treat and talk about women. (I’m also disgusted by the way some women treat and talk about women, although IRL I am lucky enough not to associate with such people. Apparently posters like LOUKYDAD–who a few days ago stated that the atmosphere of a room changes when a younger (of course!), fitter, more attractive woman enters, and that the other women go after her when she leaves–associates with a different sort of person.) Just yesterday I started to watch the movie “Great Hot American Summer” on Netflix because Josh Charles is in it and had to turn it off a few minutes in because it was so revolting in that way.
I don’t want to jump on any bandwagon, even though it feels good to excoriate someone who is set up as the poster villain on an issue.
To reiterate, I think that she now thinks she was raped, and at the time definitely felt violated by what happened. But she wasn’t even certain at the time if she had “had sex.” Did he penetrate her? Quite possibly not. Whether he did or did not, he did something very bad, and he knows it. I am hoping that they find him guilty of the misdemeanor that does not require registration as a sex offender.
I understand you, @consolation. Labrie was a callous jerk and an example should be made. But not sure he deserves to live life as a felon or a sex offender.
Also, I don’t believe Labrie should walk scott-free from what he did to this girl. I’m encouraged that the jury is spending some time on this.
I don’t see this. I don’t buy his story. I don’t think most men would buy his story.
Also…the guy looks fake…turns out…he might have a costume designer.
He looks very unattractive to me. I ask my wife all the time…Is that guy attractive? Is this guy attractive?
I think Kyle Chandler is very attractive. I can see women going for him. This Owen in the court room…echhhh.
Of course…he looks a little different outside the courtroom.
Pete Schworm at Boston globe just tweeted verdict has been reached
I don’t buy that narrative either. I’m just saying that I think some people would. Especially a man who was awkward at that age. Enough so that they couldn’t be sure he did it without a shadow of a doubt.
And I find Kyle Chandler extremely attractive. I just wanted to be Tami Taylor.
I find Tami Taylor attractive too.
The jury has reached a verdict.
Any place to stream live tv coverage? I don’t live in the viewing area.
This does not seem long enough to me for a guilty verdict to have been reached on all felony counts. But I’ve been wrong before . . .
When I was on a jury…we took several hours to decide one issue.
“While this has nothing to do with the trial, I do wonder why she would not have consulted her sister who was a member of the graduating class?”
Apropos of nothing, I had a sister two years ahead of me in high school. There’s no one on earth whose judgment I feared more than hers. Even though we loved each other, she’s the last person I would have gone to to admit something embarrassing that involved other students at our high school.
Guilty on solicitation by computer . . .
Add: NG on 3 felonies
Add: Guilty on 1 felony (computer) 4 misdemeanors. Defendant apparently collapses and cries.
Not guilty on 3 rape charges but guilty of statutory rape
So – prison? What happens to him?
A misdemeanor would carry a maximum sentence of 11 months, 29 days, right? Though they very rarely see anything approaching that much time…?
Hard to sort through it all but here’s the twitter feed: https://twitter.com/hashtag/owenlabrie
Found guilty on 5 accusations…
Are all these misdemeanors?
