Prep School Rape

Re: Nrdsb4, #1892, it was sort of my point that the victim in the Labrie case looked younger before. The longer the case drags on, the more equal the two parties will appear to be. All to the benefit of the defendant (appellant).

Anyone in the VT/NH media market know of any recent developments in the appeal process? Surely Labrie must be almost finished with the chapel he’s building to demonstrate his piety …

Zip. Nada. And no new court filings since May.

Regarding our other friend Brock Turner:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/12/02/stanford-sex-offender-brock-turner-is-appealing-his-conviction/?undefined=&utm_term=.bfba2564893c&wpisrc=nl_most&wpmm=1

OMG.

Apparently he believes that the phrase “behind a dumpster” was prejudicial, when in fact he was beside the dumpster.

Does anyone here think “in front of a dumpster” makes him a saint?!

There is a whole new thread about that appeal, btw.

He’s just looking for a mechanism to appeal so he doesn’t have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

A page out of the Labrie playbook just a different tack.

from the school’s trustees today:

“I am writing today to let you know that we have resolved the civil litigation initiated by the Prout’s in June 2016 and that the lawsuit will be dismissed. This is a welcomed outcome as the litigation is costly and disruptive for the School.
While the terms of the School’s agreement with the Prout’s are confidential, there is no restriction on any party talking about the case. Indeed, we know Ms. Prout has a book coming out in March, which will likely generate additional publicity. We continue to admire Ms. Prout’s courage and commend her efforts surrounding sexual assault prevention.”

Reading the news about the settlement today made me wonder about what the heck is going on with the State of NH vs Labrie case so I googled and this came up from yesterday - another new lawyer, this time a public defender at taxpayer’s expense. I’ve lost track of the number of lawyers he has had:
http://www.concordmonitor.com/Labrie-appointed-appellate-defender-14863070

Thanks for the updates @doschicos. If Labrie thinks the phalanx of lawyers that cost $100K (which he raised from his supporters) failed him, I can’t wait to see what he thinks about what he’ll get on the taxpayer’s dime.

The journalist who wrote this article may be wondering the same thing I am about Jaye Rancourt’s zealous representation of him.

(To be clear: I am not casting aspersions on public defenders - just commenting on the fact that he was not satisfied with high priced lawyers who were richly compensated to cater to him, so I don’t know how he’s going to feel about the amount of attention he’ll receive from overburdened public defenders.)

Reading that statement from SPS - did it really use “Prout’s” possessive instead of “Prouts” plural?

Copy and pasted. From the head of the board of trustees but I would imagine others looked it over but obviously not the english teachers. #-o

Lol, @GnocchiB ! I began to type that same question and then saw your post…

Me three on the apostrophe!

It was the first thing I saw… let’s hope the writer wasn’t educated at St. Paul’s…

Chessy’s statement to Town & Country magazine:

Me too on the apostrophe. I suppose CC attracts a certain type of person!

^^^Agree. A co-worker once gave me a tee-shirt that says “Silently Correcting Your Grammar.” :frowning:
