But what are the rankings based on and how are they weighted? yes schools are ranked based on Ivy admits, highest SATs, highest endowments (or endowment per student) etc. But if they rank and overall what is it based on? When I was doing research a while ago I read several articles that said there is no actual overall “ranking” for American private schools because there are too many variables about what is most important.
It’s easy (yet time consuming) to find the rankings for the above mentioned stats - search all the school sites and complie a list.
I thought even preppreview just ranked based on single criteria?

It appears that they rank soley based on Ivy+MIT/Stanford admissions

Because I’m a sport, I will only charge $25 for my top 50 rankings of boarding schools. You can pay $50 for the schools ranked according to what some generic person thinks is best or you can pay me half that for the top 50 schools that I think are best for my son who – unlike the model that the computers rank to “fit” – is a real live person. Now, of course, you’re going to say, “Yeah, but D’yer, your son’s top 50 schools aren’t going to mean anything to me (or my child), so why should I pay you a dime?!” To which I might point out that the rankings you might pay $40 or $50 to see aren’t ranked to fit anyone, so why should it suddenly matter that the ones I’m charging less for aren’t ranked to you (or your child) either?

Any takers?

EXACTLY!!! Thank you. That is why I re-posted what SPSDad posted a bunch of pages back…it depends on what you are looking for.

I don’t think the number of Ivy and MIT/Stanford placements **alone **makes the best school for anyone. There are so many other factors, which I’m learning about so fast that it makes my head spin.

Finally. Two people who make the most sense. Thanks for posting D’yer and Linda S.

Does anyone of you know the latest rankings of following 2 Boarding schools?
- St. John’s High School in MA
- High Mowing School in New Hamphshire

33 and 52, respectively, according to the computer rankings released yesterday by the wire services.

;)

Tied for first according to the respective families of students and alumni you might happen to ask.

;)

Okay, this one took a while because I had to write numbers 1 - 250 on teeny tiny slips of paper. So, sorry for the lag time since the last post.

Anyway, the answer is 126 and 187, respectively, according to numbers drawn from my baseball cap.

;)

I just called the Psychic Friends Network ( http://www.psychicfriendsnetwork.net ) for their rankings, but I’ve been on hold for 5 minutes and at $3.99 per minute, I bailed. Sorry. I guess I shouldn’t have asked to speak with Miss Cleo personally. But, fwiw, I am getting very strong, positive vibes about the numbers 27 and Pi, respectively, at this very moment.

The answer to that is quite simple. All we need to do is set up the following experiment and analyze the results; we should get an equation that will allow us to specifically determine the ranks of each school:

= = =

Consider a spin, which, at time t = 0, is in the state | + >:

|*ψ/I> = | + >
This corresponds to
|ψ~(0)> = | + >

What is the probability ρ{(+)(-)}(t) of finding this spin in the state | - > at time t? Since a(t) and b_(t) have the same modulus, we can write

ρ{(+)(-)}(t) = |< - |*ψ/I>|^2 = |a(t)|^2 = |b_(t)|^2 = |<- |ψ~(t)|>|^2.

The probability ρ{(+)(-)}(t) is, of course, zero at time t = 0 and then varies sinusoidally with respect to time between the values 0 and {ω(1)^2}/{ω(1)^2 + (Δω)^2}. Here, we see a resonance phenomenon. For |Δω| ≥ |ω(1)|, ρ{(+)(-)}(t) remains very close to zero; near resonance, the oscillation amplitude of ρ{(+)(-)}(t) becomes large and when the condition Δω = 0 is exactly satisfied, we have ρ{(+)(-)}(t) = 1 at times t = {(2n+1)π}/{ω(1)}.

Thus, we find again the result which we have obtained classically: at resonance, a very weak rotating field is able to reverse the direction of the spin. Note, moreover, that the angular frequency of the oscillation…

= = =

:D

Ever since school got out, you have had too much time on your hands…

Go back to reading about astrophysics. :D

Yeah, Chaos, shut up. Aw, I’ve missed you being on this board. You’re hanging out with the Cafeers (sp?) lately. It’s sad.

But your school starts like in the middle of JULY right?? If you tell me the date I can subtract the days from my Choate countdown and tell me how many more days you have.

Stop hatin’ on Quantum Mechanics, J. :D

-

Well, there isn’t much I can talk about. I try to give my advice to some newcomers once in a while, but that’s about it.

My school starts on July 25th. When do you get to go to Choate?

Forty-two days until your school, Chaos!

And for your other question, see my new board. :D

Forty-two is not nearly enough time. I’ll have to use that time-machine-thingy that Hermione used.

D’yer Maker - you must be working on a mean case of writer’s block right now

Shiny - Not sure how much you know about High Mowing but it is a unique school being a Waldorf School

Maybe we should ask the magic 8-ball? Perhaps the mirror on the wall? :D

Or maybe just the Lovemeister?

Where can I get a copy of these rankings WoW finally a true unbiased ranking. No need to tell me who’s number one and two…I already knew it was Middlesex and Westover LOL My kids sure lucked out
