Prep school reputations.

It’s that book about Milton, I think.

What are the schools with the most “preppy” students (Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Lilly Pulitzer, J. Crew -wearing, golf, tennis, crew, squash, etc. - playing, WASPy types)? Not that that’s necessarily bad, but I was just wondering.

What are the schools with the most “Gossip Girl”, “Private”, “It Girl” students (fashionable, beautiful, etc.)?

What are the schools with the most students from big cities, such as New York?

It is about Milton… Deerfield is absolutely the preppiest – it’s basically ingrained into their dress code. I don’t know if it’s been posted on this thread before, but a pretty general idea of commonly accepted prep school reputations is the list of prep school lightbulb jokes. I must say, I am a fan of Andover’s:

How many Andover kids does it take to screw in a lightbulb? One. He holds the lightbulb and the world revolves around him. :)

And so on and so forth. Gotta love it.

Agree: Deerfield is preppiest. Andover is very preppy as well, though, from personal experience.
I don’t watch Gossip Girl, but it is widely agreed upon at my school that the girls are unusually pretty. Little experience with other schools in that area, though.

prettyckitty - where do you go?

Supposedly, Choate is more NYC-like/Gossip Girl like. I wouldn’t take my word for it though, since I didn’t look much at Choate.

Does anybody know what Peddie is like?

You might look at the detailed descriptions that graduates have provided. Some are a bit dated for Peddie, but still might provide useful insights. Go here for Peddie graduates comments: [Peddie School - Student Review #1](Browse Student Reviews)

I don’t like the student reviews on that website. It seems like there are no negative comments about the schools. I would like to hear some drawbacks about the school too.

I remember seeing some negative things said on Andover’s page, but most of what I remember (of all of schools’ student reviews) is overwhelmingly positive.

I know all schools have drugs and whatnot, but I attend a west coast boarding school and we all have our reputations. Do schools have reputations on the west coast as well?

what were the rankings of the following schools on prep review? (2007rankings or 2006)
LOOMIS
MILTON
KENT
NMH
BROOKS
DEERFIELD

here are the latest info:

here are some ranking info.

The ranking was determined based on SAT score, endowment/student, number of AP classes, number of Sports club, number of Extracurricular activities, boarding students ratio, students to teachers ratio, percentage of the advanced degree holding faculties, students per class, and its history(foundation year)

sorry, percent–what?
btw amazing that A and E tied. sigh.

percent of IVY+MIT+Stanford placement

What does “percent of IVY+MIT+Stanford placement” tell you about a school?

ALthough I agree that percent of IVY+MIT+Stanford placement doesn’t tell all about a school, I think some of the criteria used by erkybk is even less relevant e.g. number of AP classes and its history(foundation year)

Many strong BS don’t have AP classes.

When it comes to the top tier schools, rankings are meaningless. All can offer a great education - it’s all a matter of fit and personal preference.

for us asians, matriculation is everything ;)

but personally, i don’t believe that ranking, just because some schools i know that have great matriculation (i’m serious, i went to their sites and looked at the college matriculation; they should be up there) that aren’t even on the list.
thacher, for example. i got the viewbook from last year but still. around three of the kids got into stanford alone (around 70ish people tops in a grade, i think) and i know a LOT more ivy league schools were on that. i don’t think everybody would just start to slack off this year.

then again most of the schools on that list make sense lol

btw, does anybody know the specific matriculation for george school?
their website has the “last five/four (can’t remember) year matriculation” thing, but it has no numbers, just names.

thanks :D

But westcoast, isn’t it possible that the same things that got the kid into prep-school are going to get them into the ivy leagues+MIT+Standford by which I am suggesting Legacy status. Going to school with kids who are “hooked” for Ivy entry won’t give you Ivy entry.

I don’t think it tells you very much about the differences between the top 25 or so schools.
