Mugsy is right- a significant portion of the prep school grads at Ivies and Stanford are not there solely for academic reasons (legacy, connections, CREW, etc). I don’t think it’s worthwhile to compare Ivy placement- you don’t get into college because of your school, you get into college because of what you do at your school.

Really, going to prep school should be about the experience and the education, not about college placement. That said, very few people come out of prep school and don’t go on to a great college (it might not be Ivy, but there are a lot of other great schools out there).

So, to be a top student in a highly ranked public school has an advantage comparing to be an average student in a ‘lower profile BS’ FOR COLLEGE ADMISSION ???

It’s true, if we think the most important thing at high school is ‘aim for top college’. And if the college is just a ‘job training center’ or a ‘stepping stone to top jobs’, then, school ranking really matter !

Hello,
I have been considering three schools, namely, Tabor, Taft and St. Georges. Can you give me opinions on the three because I am very confused as I have to reply by 10th April.

How would you rank the schools overall? Academically and athletic wise?

Mehappykid - It definitely depends on the college. Many colleges have evolved and realize the middle of the class SPS student is a better fit for their school than the top of the class at a “highly” ranked public school. It once again depends on what they’re looking for. In some top Ivy’s for instance, a high percentage of the students play sports. At others they do not.

I think most of the English faculty felt betrayed by-- and embarassed for-- the authors, because Milton really teaches kids how to write well. The book is just so poorly written and shamelessly trashy.
In terms of your chances of getting molestered, karma generally operates here. Although we might be the most recent scandal on people’s minds, I don’t think it really speaks for the school. Just wait a few years and there another one of those scandals-- that people watch like episodes of the OC-- at some other, equally lofty school.

I’d like to see what has changed since the original post here.

What are the reputations of boarding schools?

…the best? (I know this is a matter of opinion, but I mean tiers and SAT scores. The HYPSM matriculation has already been posted on another thread.)

Sorry for double posting, but I remembered another question I had wanted answered.

How many spots are open for sophomores at the following schools: Andover, Exeter, SPS, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Peddie, Choate, Middlesex?

Not sure the TOTAL number of new sophomores at Choate, buuut I’m personally one of those, and I’ve met many, many new sophs on Facebook and the like. I would definitely keep it on your list.
