As a BBA student, are there certain things one should know beforehand? For example, I have heard that one should be really good with using Excel.

Also, as an incoming freshman pre-admit into Ross Business School, I would be delighted to know about any tips regarding a BBA in general.

If you are going to be making presentations in any of your classes, you may be expected to wear appropriate business attire–so be sure to bring some with you.

Definitely make sure you are proficient with Excel, Powerpoint, etc…

Make sure you back up all that you are working on–for example, email yourself copies of drafts of projects/papers as you work on them–speaking as the parent of children who experienced all kinds of catastrophes at college, from a crashed hard drive to a stolen laptop.

When you work on group projects/presentations, make a paper trail and communicate with each other frequently–including an email describing how you all decided to divide up work/responsibility. Do frequent project status updates with one another to keep each other current with where you each stand, any difficulties you are encountering—and to keep a potential slacker on task. If there is a problem with the group, try to resolve among yourselves first–but document, document, document. If it is necessary to seek help from the professor, go to him before the end of the project so you don’t seem disorganized/desperate…and share your documentation with him.

OP, google for some online tutorials. Or the “Dummies” series is sometimes very useful. And then just practice. Find some fun/interesting topics or projects, and go to town. Maybe make an Excel spreadsheet for your expected budget or your expected four year curriculum, and then make a powerpoint presentation to your parents for practice both in the technicalities and in how to manage speaking and technology in making a presentation.

Boysx3, thanks for the advice! Would it be better for me to learn how to use Apple’s version of Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint (Numbers and Keynote) since I am taking a Mac to college, or should I download the Microsoft software to my Mac?
