Prepare for significantly higher tuition next fall at NM universities

NM Governor Susana Martinez has vetoed ALL of the funding for higher education in her state, a total of $6.1B. And legislators cannot override the veto.

She took this step to protest legislator’s spending and tax increases, and cut out all spending for the legislature as well starting July 1. Another factor is supposedly her irritation at the legislature for not scheduling hearings for her picks for the Board of Regents for the U’s. If a quick fix isn’t found (which isn’t rated likely) how do schools prepare a budget for next year? Looks like big tuition increases coming as well. Don’t think I’d be looking at NM schools right now if I had other good choices.
