Preparing for Cornell Weather?

I was just accepted - yay! - and I’m looking around at winter apparel. How cold is it during the wintertime at Cornell? I’m from Texas, and used to warm weather, and winter temps at about twenty degrees at minimum.

Also, should I go with North Face, or something else? I appreciate any advice given!

Hey  I live about an hour from Cornell  Also just accepted. So here we can get a lot of snow…especially in Ithaca. So maybe some boots since we’ll have to walk alot  Um northfaces are nice and deff in style right about now. Just make sure you get a good winter coat, like a nice peat coat or thick coat. We get all four seasons, like 0-90 degrees. So make sure you bring a windbreaker or some hoodies for spring and fall, shorts and t’s for the summer, and longsleeves for winter. It’ll be great!!!

Welcome to the wonderful weather of Upstate New York. You will need a waterproof parka with hood (stuffed with down is good), a GOOD pair of waterproof real winter boots, LINED leather gloves (Thinsulate is good), a wool scarf (only 100% WOOL is warm, synthetic fabrics are cold and do not retain heat well.) Your favorite fashion word will be “LAYERS” because when you go from 80 degree overheated dorm or classroom, out into 0 degree, windchill, and back again, you need to be able to adjust your body temperature, or you will be miserable. Long underwear to wear under pants is also a good idea (tights also, but try for cotton blends, not nylon). Winter here is beautiful and fun to play in, and will be a real novelty for you if you have never experienced it. Everyone loves to complain about it, but whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you appreciate the Spring when it FINALLY comes around! Enjoy Cornell, it is a fantastic school and a beautiful campus, and, like all experiences, it will be what you make of it!

[Cornell Confidential](http://cornellconfidential.com) and ask current students, i’m sure everyone would be more than happy to let you know how terrible the weather can be here!

on a side note, congrats! and if you have other questions, you can find a wealth of knowledge on the cornellconfidential board :)
