preparing for september (mentally)

im trying to do as much as i can this summer while still relaxing a lottttt. however, im wondering if anyone has any recommendations for books, movies, etc to enhance my cultural literacy and prepare me for the fall??

i had the same thoughts as you before my freshman year, but really, there’s no need to worry. read what you enjoy, watch the films you love. you’ll find that as you stick to your personal preferences, there’ll be more to discuss with your future classmates who, whether or not will have similar tastes, will be eager to learn about your interests or debate them. :)

maybe pick up a book about the city of Chicago?

I wouldn’t bother working on “cultural literacy” for Chicago, it’s pretty much the same as any other northern city. That said, the pizza is surprisingly bad, and some people refer to soda as “pop”. I’d recommend watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, mostly because it’s a good movie, but also because it’s in Chicago. Be forewarned: the University attracts far more Cameron’s than Ferrises (Ferri? I’m not sure about the plural.)
