Preparing for Sophomore Year....

How does my schedule for next year (Sophomore year of High School) compare to the course load you had as a sophomore? (See below for list of classes) Assuming that I do well in these classes, is it possible that they will keep me on the road to rice?

AP Biology
English 2 Honors
AP World History (Class in conjunction with Model United Nations)
Algebra 2 Honors
Possibly Yearbook
French 2 (No Honors Offered)

Current Rice Students’ feedback is greatly appreciated!

Don’t take Yearbook, it’s a waste of time. Looks like you are behind where I was in math my sophomore year. Also, I took 8 classes at a time.
I didn’t have any AP’s until Junior year though (except for Spanish, but that’s not a real class), so that is impressive (especially since AP Bio sucks)

Umm… don’t worry about it.

Did your school allow sophomores to take AP classes? Oh, and thanks for the info about yearbook. Everybody tells me that it looks good on college applications, but I have other extracurriculars that I really want** to do. Yearbook is one of those things that everyone has on their application, and I don’t think that it even matters, if you aren’t the editor.

Don’t undertake any EC that you don’t really enjoy. Rice (and other schools) is looking for applicants with commitment, not padding.

D started taking AP’s in the 10th grade (weren’t offered any earlier then). As long as your classes are challenging to YOU, then you’re fine.

Seriously, take whatever you want, as long as it’s decently challenging. You shouldn’t be worrying about this your sophomore year. If you let yourself enjoy high school and don’t worry about how things will look to colleges, it will affect you positively.

Do you think I should take Chemistry Honors and AP Biology next year?

Are you not listening? Take what you want; don’t worry about it.

Your sophomore schedule is much harder than mine was. Just take what classes you want to take and do well in them and you’ll be fine.
