Prepping for a new class heading off to college

TheMom had a very large file to upload tonight, more than an hour at DSL speeds, so I went downstairs and rummaged around the DVD & VHS collections. Considering that students are now making their commitments and will be heading off to college in a few short months, it seemed the perfect time to watch “Animal House.” I recommend it. It should reassure all the parents who are nervous about the experience.

Are you trying to scare them, TheDad!? Add “Revenge of the Nerds” to the list, while you are at it!!

For the parents of juniors: Orange County.

There’s also PCU, which is equally scary.
We watched The History Boys over the weekend. Highly recommended.

Dean Vernon Wormer: Mr. Kroger: two C’s, two D’s and an F. That’s a 1.2 grade average. Congratulations, Kroger. You’re at the top of the Delta pledge class. Mr. Dorfman?
Flounder: Hello!
Dean Vernon Wormer: Zero point two… Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son. Mr. Hoover, president of Delta house? One point six; four C’s and an F. A fine example you set! Daniel Simpson Day… HAS no grade point average. All courses incomplete. Mr. Blu - MR. BLUTARSKY… ZERO POINT ZERO.

Marite–you beat me to PCU! (Good thing I didn’t see that before D transfered ;)).

PCU?

IF: me?! Try to scare parents??! Aw g’won.

PCU is about Wesleyan. We actually watched it before S matriculated.

How about a movie for those contemplating an all girls school? ;)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0203088/

“Satan’s School for Girls” (2000)

Plot Outline: “A young woman enrolls at an all-girls college in New England to investigate her sister’s suicide and is slowly lured into a witchcraft cult by a quartet of students wanting to make her their fifth member of their evil circle.”

1SM: I am relieved by that description. It must be based on Wellesley, you couldn’t get four young women at Smith to agree on that much.

LOVE the witch or satan or whatever highschool and college movies- had some girls like that in my own school-

I preferred the original “Satan’s School for Girls” (Kate Jackson version).

How about “Accepted”?

firelyscout,

I was about to say that. The original was much better!

haha Animal House is such an amazing movie. I don’t even remember the first time I saw that movie; I’ve just always known it. So the other day my father and I were discussing colleges and Dartmouth came up. When I said I had no interest in it he proclaimed “you don’t want to live through Animal House! What’s wrong with you!” yeah I have to say I never thought he could be that cool.

Orange County is great as well though I haven’t seen the other films listed on here.
