I wear a polo over a plain, white t shirt lol. All people can see (of the t shirt) is like… a little bit of my upper chest.

Is that what she’s talking about?

who knows? and yeah, some ppl do that, but i think in a different way from rather what she was talking about. i never put on double polos because i just think that’s a bit too preppy, and i don’t think i really deserve to dress that preppy. as real preps explain, preppy is not just a clothing style, its a life style. (country club memberships, knowing how to sail, golf, etc, and summering in places like nantucket)

Id rather save up and spend $50 on a fitted polo for Ralph Lauren then a $25 one from Hollister

A&F, Hollister, AE = not real preppy

I love it how every single dude in my school dresses the same and wonders why I treat them like a tool

I’m broke…but I try to dress preppy. I usually wear a pair of jeans…and a polo shirt or button down shirt to school everyday…but sometimes I get tired of it…or don’t do my laundry…and I just wear a t-shirt.

I hate preppy guys. Girls, I don’t care as long as they’re hot. But, guys, come on. I respect the biilabong skater/surfer guys, and the more hip-hop guys, but preppy guys—says I’m a rich a-hole to me. But maybe that’s because no guys dress like that around here.

reppin the northshore, w00t

HarlemNY…of course no one dresses preppy where you’re from…Harlem = hip hop land

haha that’s what I was going to say.

Someone just told me my music was preppy…

They’re like, “What are you listening to?” I’m like, “Jack Johnson and Bob Dylan.” and they’re like, “MAJOR PREP.” I didn’t even know this guy. He was someone from the UK.

Eww did you meet them in a chat room. That is inappropriate!

lacoste=my thing always when im at the local mall im like Mom Im going to lacoste(This mall=expensive G&B Prada Gucci lots of stuff only few cheap stores) and i always get my way(lucky for them we dont go to That mall to often we go to another one) but my dad loves me…he pays 20k+ for my education and will probably be paying more for me next yr all b/c he thinks i would be better set off at a private school w/ my adhd. i usually have other school shirts(school uniform is chinos and polos in certain colors)

I’ve seen some quasi-preps work a little Carhartt into their wardrobes. Would that be fashionable or just ironic?

Carhartt as in like those farm jackets?

Umm…no. He just added me on MSN.

my uniform is chinos and colored polos too. Most of the people at my schools get the chinos at American Eagle.

for girls, the best chinos are the 5" ones from j. crew.
so comfortable and really cute.
they also look good with ralph lauren polos and lacoste.

another brand people dont look at is lilly pulitzer.
-most comfortable polos
-best cashmere
-cutest dresses

:]

lol chinos

Some more REAL preppy brands include:
Eliza B, Vera Bradley, Stephen Bonanno, and Sperry Topsiders

Things like Abercrombie are often misconstrued as preppy. While their styles originate from New England styles, they certainly do not look as classy.

I live in lower Fairfield County (in CT), which is practically the preppiest place in the world…however, I feel that the long definition of preppy on the first page of the thread describes a very traditional version of preppy. While those brands are undoubtedly still a part of “preppy,” many of us now dress in a more urban-chic-preppy way. For instance, almost all of us wear UGG boots, Juicy hoodies, and to lounge, Victoria’s Secret Pink clothing. Believe it or not, we sometimes incorporate a few items from Banana Republic and Gap into our wardrobes. And a really cute, near-vintage top found in a boutique on Greenwich Avenue is considered a great find! On the chic end, we often shift into designer mode for dressing up or visiting NYC. Actually, designer jeans–Seven for All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity–are quite popular for every-day wear. Jackets from Milly and purses from Coach are not uncommon. Don’t get me wrong–we still love to sport a RL polo with a madras skirt and Eliza B flip-flops, but urban and chic, designer items make our preppy broader and more updated.

Do you guys even pay for your own clothes? I like to wear nice clothes too, as a guy, but I pay for my stuff which can get expensive…$70 for a woven 7 Diamonds shirt means only 1 or 2 a month. I see girls in my school with clothing that would last for 2 months and I got to think how I would hate to have a daughter & have to buy all that stupid (UGGs, over priced handbags) designer stuff for them all the time…damn what happened to class?

Ugg boots are truly hideous
