Hi! I am currently looking for a contemporary song for my MT BFA prescreens!
I don’t have a very low range but I can sing up to around an E6, and can mix-belt as well. I am searching for a contrasting audition cut to Make Believe from Showboat.
I want a contemporary song similar to No One Else or Still Hurting, but not as overdone. If you have any ideas I would love to hear some. Thanks so much!
What about “I’m Not Afraid of Anything” from Songs for a New World? If you like “Still Hurting,” it’s the same composer. The accompaniment is also pretty doable, which your piano will appreciate.
“I Miss the Mountains” from Next to Normal is solid.
Or for a newer song, try “Worth It” from Suffs.

Still Hurting is such a great song though.
It doesn’t meet your criteria for new, but maybe look at Laurie’s Song from The Tender Land by Aaron Copland.
