Prescription Medication at NYU

Hey guys, I’m looking forward to a great year at NYU, but there’s just one thing - getting my prescriptions filled. I’m currently being prescribed adderall (diagnosed as a child), a medication that requires me to get a written prescription from my physician each month.

Here is my question:

Since schedule 2 drugs like adderall cannot be phoned into pharmacies, that means I’d have to find another physician in New York (preferably through NYU) to prescribe me medication. As I reside in California, I’m not really aware of the New York laws regarding that; what sort of identification do I need to continue getting my adderall prescriptions through a new doctor? I had my doctor write me a single one month prescription. Can I show that to an NYU doctor and have him write prescriptions for me?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.

I’d definitely look into mail order prescriptions. I’m diabetic and they ship me three months worth of supplies based on my prescriptions from my doctor back home whenever I need them. I use a service called Prime Mail.

New York does have pretty strict laws regarding transferring prescriptions. I had some problems when I needed syringes and couldn’t wait for the mail order. However, in that case at least, I was able to get the prescription filled at a pharmacy in New Jersey.

Hope this helps.

First call your prescription insurance company, if you have one. You are not the first person to face this issue. The company may have a solution for you.

Second, call the NYU student health services. Again, you are not the first person to have this problem and they will know the procedure. Save yourself time and worry by talking to the those who actually can help you!
