preserving the family archives

I thought it would be nice to do a photo-book for my parents 80th birthdays. Talk about opening Pandora’s box! When they downsized to a condo a while back, I ‘inherited’ all the old family slides. Several years ago I bought a gizmo that attaches to my DSLR with which I believe you basically take photos of the slide and can then upload it from the SD card like you would with regular digital images. Needless to say, said gizmo has never been removed from the box. I actually started to go thru the slides this weekend and realize that this would probably take me years. Has anyone ever used any of the online companies that do scanning? Just looked at scancafe and digmypics and thought why not throw it out to the experts on everything- CC parents! Thanks

Three words: Costco photo department. Reasonable prices and great quality.

If you want to go the DIY way, the photo camera attachment sounds like a painful way to go. Research slide scanners on B&H - they are faster and the included software can correct color, remove scratches, etc.
