Presidential Classroom

I know it's one of them pay to attend things, but I'm still excited to go.

My family doesn't have that much cash, so I looked for personal donations.

I applied about two weeks ago, hope I get in the Presidential Inaugural program. I was looking for donors, but an organization decided to sponsor all $1600 for the Inaugural program.

Anyone gone through this before? What's it like?

I have heard good things. I was at Georgetown for an IR program and Presidential Classroom was there too. It seemed interesting, but it is also NOT very academic. Think of it more as a fun opportunity than an opportunity for enrichment.

I think you will love it, especially if you are in to politics. Plus, it is being payed for, which is always nice - it makes it hard to dislike something that you don't need to foot the bill for.

I went to a Bio-terrorism symposium, all expenses paid - much more enjoyable that way!

Thanks. Anyone else have comments on this?

I hope I do get in that Inaugural program. I saw today that it was full, but it wasn't when I sent my application in. prays to God

The organization that is paying for me is the same one that paid for my trip to Philadelphia (The Freedom's Foundation)... I have a lot of thank you letters to write!

what about the fact that this essay is 379 words

i'd say above 300 is really pushing it

hm i got that in the mail....

but...i think its a scam.

EncomiumII: What?

Serin: It's not really a scam, just not that great an EC either. I'm not going to put it on my college applications, I'm going to experience D.C.

Yes, it is $1600, and likewise my family would have never been able to afford it -- had the FF not helped me tremendously.

One other question -- since Presidential Classroom is held at Georgetown's Marriott Conference center, do you think I could visit Georgetown while over there? I'm pretty sure the school would let me extend my stay, but what about GU? You think they'd let me stay overnight, and maybe never leave?

DS received this invite as well. Same thought as Serin, as an EC if you have to pay, no way.

Well, again, I'm only going because I received special funding for it. Otherwise, I couldn't possibly pay for it out of pocket.

Are you aware that the Conference center is RIGHT on campus? It would be a perfect opportunity to visit, sit on classes, whatever.

I am familiar with these programs as well and they are more valuable for the socialization than anything else. I wouldn't recommend them as anything to add to an app (IMHO)
