Presidential Race

“When Newt or Rudy perjure themselves and obstruct justice, then there would be a contradiction. Until then the only contradiction that I see are from those who say that what one does in private life has no bearing on one’s ability to govern.”

Yup. Serial deserter of sick wives. Has no impact on the way he views women’s health concerns, or the needs of the elderly. No bearing. Carries on for a year in the Mayor’s Mansion while his wife and daughter live there, making personal use of public funds, and then banned from seeing his own daughter. Has no impact on the way he views divorce law or child protection statutes. Good judge of character, too - appoints his personal bodyguard and driver police commissioner of the largest city in the United States, who promptly rents a love nest at taxpayer expense to entertain the future editor and publicist of OJ’s book on how “he would have done it”>

No bearing on ability to govern. Hey, neither of them killed half a million children, and that’s somethun.

Sex is none of the gov’s business, which is why I think it’s terrific that Rudy supports gay marriage (as did Romney) and abortion rights.

As will many, many other high-minded Democrats green-party-goers, whatever, as time goes by. :)

Mini, he didn’t kill a half a million children.

Actually, likely a bit more - that’s just those under age 5. Would you like pictures? AFSC took great pictures of the dead and dying, and of the destroyed wastewater treatment plants that resulted in their death, or the list of the simple antibiotics on the embargo list. Or would you simply like a list of the European diplomats who charged him with genocide?

dstark, as I recall, it wasn’t the government that asked him the questions regarding his sexual activiities - it was the lawyers for a private citizen who was accusing Clinton of sexual harrassment. If you want to give any defendant in such cases the right to say “go to hell” over such questions then you might have a fight with NOW.

I’m talking about Monica Lewinsky. It was none of the government’s business. So when did he perjure himself?

Mini, you don’t have pictures of 500,000 dead kids. Nobody has those pictures. 500,000 kids did not die because of the bombing of the wastewater treatment plants.

Show me the web sites where 500,000 kids died because of the bombing.

He perjured himself as part of the Paula Jones sexual harrassment trial when the lawyers asked him about Monica Lewinski, presumably as a means to establish a pattern of conduct.

So he was convicted of perjury when?

The judge found him in contempt of court in 1998 and referred the case to the Arkansas bar who subsequently disbarred him.

Great. We hear you. But, that was eight years ago…ancient history. Bill Clinton is not an elected official and, as far as we know, not running for office.

Let’s move on to today’s issues, painful though that may be to a supporter of the Republican administration.

Surely you are not suggesting that Mini is wrong to base his voting decisions on the candidates’ “family values”…

Here, I have been led to believe that “family valyoos” are the third rail of American politics, right?

These statements were in reaction to mini’s, idad.
And I pronounce values “VALUES”; not “valyoos”–as I am quite sure FF does also (and probably the vast majority of the English-speaking world).
Yuk.

edit: Okay, maybe not at Swarthmore.

Family Valyoos ™

Isn’t it called the “Party of Appeasement and Family Values” (PAFV)?

Your disdain for the middle class is exactly why I’m no long a liberal–still mau-mauing the flak-catchers.

“Simply put, the president’s deposition testimony regarding whether he had ever been alone with Ms. (Monica) Lewinsky was intentionally false and his statements regarding whether he had ever engaged in sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky likewise were intentionally false,” the judge wrote of Clinton’s January 17, 1998 deposition.

It was none of the judges business.

The only questions that should have been asked about Monica Lewinsky were did you sexually harass her or force yourself on her.

That’s it.
The rest is bs.

I look at the damage done to the country by Bill Clinton and the damage done to the country by GW Bush and it’s not even close, Bush by a landslide. To keep someone of Bush’s staggering ineptitude and incompetence from office, I’d happily chip in to a “Tart of the Month” club for whatever president was in office…“Towel Boy of the Month” club if more appropriate.

Mini’s on to something, though: you can’t make any criticism of Bush without, in a very short order of time, somebody injecting Bill Clinton into the conversation and saying “But Clinton was worse!”

From the Buffalo News, yesterday’s edition:

"Meanwhile, the U.S. military announced three more troop deaths: a Marine killed Sunday and two soldiers killed Monday. That raised the three-day toll since Saturday to 31 and the overall death toll since the start of the war to 3,064.

Iraqi police and morgue officials reported at least 57 people were killed in sectarian violence nationwide on Tuesday."

I am so relieved that people on this site are debating about the lies and impeachment of a man who hasn’t been president for more than 6 years. It shows a reassuring sense of priorities.

There’s nothing to debate about the president we have now except for is he the worst president of the last 70 years or the second worst?

The worst, hands down.
