Presidential Scholars Program and SAT Scores

I know you need close to a 1600/1600 for this, but if I retake a 1600 to improve my writing score, and I end up getting something like a 1560, will that make me no longer eligible for the program since my most recent score will not qualify for it, or will they overlook that?

No, they will overlook that. So you will still qualify, regardless of what you get on your next test.

^ How do you know?

^I remember reading it somewhere and honestly it makes sense. If they disqualified you because your score dropped, it would make little sense. But no, I don't have a source on hand right now...

Let me google that for you

They take your score out of 2400.

That wasn't exactly an easy search phrase. :)

No, it's out of 1600.

^ Really? Why would they overlook the writing?

^ They probably didn't bother to change the system since the new SAT was introduced.

so they drop the lowest score and just consider the highest score from a single sitting.

haha silverturtle, what can I say I'm just a great googler.

Whoa, wait. So does that mean if I improve out of 2400 in my next sitting, but deprove out of 1600, then they will take my highest sitting score out of 2400, or highest sitting score out of 1600?

What it means is that you are already eligible for the program.

Does that mean I should not take it again, to avoid the risk of getting an overall better score?

So, I'm guessing a 1560/1600 won't cut it?

If you have 1600/1600, there's nothing you can do now to mess that up.

Correct. Most competitive states will be 1600, with some being 1590 and a few at 1580.

Oh i see, well then, that's amazing. Thanks silver tortoise.

Ahem, turtle.

Just in case some are still confused: only the Math and Critical Reading scores of the SAT are included for Presidential Scholar qualification. Similarly, writing is not included in the ACT scores used to qualify for Presidential Scholars.

Or maybe I was the only one confused by the discussion. :)
Never mind.

So if one only took the SAT as a sophomore, would they not be eligible? It designates a two year testing window during junior and senior years.

Wait a second, it's out of 1600? I got a 1590 in Texas, am I **** out of luck?
