Pressure and water!!

Why does decreasing atmospheric pressure on a pot of boiling water cause it to boil vigorously?

Aren’t P and V directly proportional, so a decrease pressure would cause a decrease in temperature, therefore less vigorous boiling?

P and V are inversely proportional

PV=nRT

They’re inversely proportional

woops, I meant P and T are directly proportional, so wouldn’t a decrease pressure would cause a decrease in temperature, therefore less vigorous boiling?

Easy way to remember this. When you put water in a vaccum it will boil. My teacher did this in our chem class. Also think of it as the molecules want to spread out. sk12, you need to chill, being stressed doesn’t help.
