Pretreat with Dawn dish soap ok for TL HE washer?

I just got a Maytag Bravos XL washer/dryer, anybody know if it is ok to pretreat greasy food stains with Dawn dishwashing detergent as I have done in the past? I used it in my Whirlpool Duet FL but I hated that thing and wished it an untimely death every single time I used it. So far I like my Bravos so don’t want to keep using the Dawn if it might cause a problem.

We are talking about a washer for clothes right? (my mind isn’t working that well atm, so i thought i’d confirm).

Eh, well i’ve never used dawn as a pretreat, I wouldn’t think it would, however, I wouldn’t use it. I normally use this http://www.amazon.com/LAS-PURPOSE-CONCENTRATED-TOTALLY-AWESOME/dp/B0017KT3IM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336691940&sr=8-1

I buy that at the dollar store for a dollar. Waaaay cheeper and it gets just about everything out (from grease to blood).

You could have some over-sudsing, so to avoid that just rub some of the Dawn into the oily/food stain, add a bit of water (warm/hot if ok for fabric), let sit a bit, then rinse most of it out. Then launder.

The Bravos is a top loader HE right? If so, it does use more water than a front-loader, so a bit of Dawn shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

how much Dawn are you talking about?

I would rinse it before you put it in the washer because you may get too much sudsing. I did what you want to do and I had to rinse the load several times.

We just got a new washer and I had a load of towels going - overfilled the measuring line - but not by much. Way too much sudsing! Ack! It was terrible.

I had to rerinse that load twice.

Try this stuff.

I use dawn dish soap to pretreat stains in a HE front loader and it wasn’t a problem… I wasn’t aware it was a problem for any washers. I only put a dime or nickle sized bit of soap on the stain… how much are you using?

Thanks you for all the advice! I just spoke with a repair guy, my neighbor’s FL is on the fritz again, and he said it is fine as long as I am not using more than a couple of drops on the stain itself. He said for larger areas, spray with Simple Green and let sit for 15 minutes and then hand rinse before tossing in the washer.
