A hundred hours of community service AFTER the completion of your senior year isn’t going to be impressive.

You’re in a good position for most of the schools on your list–Miami of OH, Notre Dame, and UMich. UMich could, conceivably still say no, but you’ve got a decent shot.

That said, you’re also looking good for Ohio (obviously) and Dickinson. Haverford will be a little bit harder than Dickinson because it’s more popular.

Cornell, UPenn, and Northwestern are your biggest reaches.

Truthfully? I think you’ll get WashU and Northwestern.

Thanks so much for your reply!

Cornell and Penn are my reach schools–ones that I don’t really have my heart set on.

Service hours–my school requires 25 per year, but the requirements are really stringent (they’re super picky about it being for non-profit organizations, not individuals [i.e. visiting and reading to someone in a nursing home with no family is not service]), so I’ve maybe done more than my required 75 so far. When you applied to college, what did you count as service hours?

Oh, here’s some stuff I didn’t put in my original post:

I attend a really small Catholic high school in Ohio, as evidenced by the number of my class (45). I am ranked 1st in my class, but out of 45 people, it’s not as big of a deal as other schools. My school does not offer honors, IB, or AP classes because they don’t have the staff. However, I have taken all the more challenging courses that they do offer, and most people at my school are of average or above average intelligence, so the classes move a little faster than I imagine they would at some of the surrounding public schools in my area. This has been my course schedule:

Freshman:
Computer Tech I–A
Health/PE–A
English 9–A
World History–A
Freshman Science–A
Morality/Old Testament–A
Integrated Math II–A (my school does all its freshman-junior math classes as “integrated”, but I was on the accelerated track, hence the II)
Spanish I–A

Sophomore:
French I–A (this was the first year that they offered French at my school)
Spanish II–A
American History–A
English 10–A
Computer Tech II–A
Integrated Math III–A
Biology–A
Sacraments/New Testament–A

Junior:
French II–A
Spanish III–A
Pre-Calculus Analysis–A (the prep course for dual-credit Calculus)
Dual-Credit Psychology/Sociology–A
American Literature–A
Chemistry–A
Social Teachings/Church History–A
Foods/Life Skills–A

Senior (coming up):
French III
Spanish IV
Spanish V or Physics–I can’t decide which to take
Dual-Credit Calculus I and II
British Literature
American Government/Economics
Vocations/Christian Living
some other class–my guidance counselor kind of fudged my schedule, so I’ll have to see what classes are available in that slot
