<p>A few months ago, Duke sent me a couple of really good looking pamphlet’s/packets that had large vibrant pictures in them. Do these mean anything? Or does everybody get these? I also went to a Duke information session, so maybe that had something to do with it…</p>
<p>No, it means very little. I collected boxes of these things when I was in high school from all sorts of schools. Schools pay the collegeboard and other organizations for the names and contact info of high achievers on the PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP exams, and various academic contests whom they then contact. Of course, signing up at information sessions or visiting the admissions office also nets them that info. It’s standard procedure to send them to everyone since they don’t usually have any other information to do any sort of screening or filtering.</p>
