price of a gallon of gas in your state "today"

"Hoping we can get a federal investigation as to why our gas prices are $.65 gal higher than every one else. "
-I would like to have federal investigation as to why taxes on gas are higher than oil companies profits? they should stop it!

Taxes are only a small part of the variation in price.

For example, FL taxes are 11.5 cent/gal higher than MA taxes, yet the $3.20 reported by lizard is at least 20 cents cheaper than anything in MA. So accounting for taxes, gas in FL is 30+ cents cheaper than in MA.

[State Gasoline Tax Rates, as of January 1, 2012 | Tax Foundation](http://taxfoundation.org/article/state-gasoline-tax-rates-january-1-2012)

I’m glad nre posted tax table. I wrongly thought tax/gal in Fl was closer to $.60/gal. Retail “gasoline” business in Florida is very competitive with stations on almost every corner. Gas companies and chains like 7-11 and RaceTrac will readily spend 1 or 2 million dollars for a good site to build a new store. Most all gas stations in Florida are also convenience stores selling soda, beer, milk, $5 candy bars, and other overpriced junk. Maybe the Florida gas station operators make most of their profits from the convenience store sales and not the gas which is more of a leader to get customers in the stores to buy overpriced convenience items? Are most gas stations in Mass. and Washington state full blown modern convenience stores too?

^ That chart is only state taxes, there is also a Federal tax of 18.4 cents per gallon in addition. So FL has 53.4 cents per gallon total in taxes.

Most gas stations in MA have at least small stores. New stations are getting pretty large stores. One station near me was an Exxon without a store. Cumberland Farms bought it, tore down the old station, and put in a new station with a large store. They have the cheapest gas around here too.

Most new gas/convenience stores built now in Florida have 24-30 gas pumps…they do a lot of business at the pumps and in the c-store.

Wow, that’s huge. Most stations here aren’t even half that size.

$3.59 here and I am thrilled.

…thrilled about too high or too low?

The industry predictions continue to be for lower prices. Demand is off in most of the world, which impacts the international price, and new pipeline capacity is coming on line - has started, in fact - to address the price and supply issue at the OK point. As you may know, there has been a persistent discrepancy between the OK price and the world Brent price.

Left Wisconsin (where I think I paid $3.69 for regular) for Florida last week and saw prices drop as we traveled, Georgia- $3.19 the lowest, then $3.31 in Florida with $3.29 or so in the Tampa area now. The travel gas was along the interstate- further south we paid attention to big billboards advertising gas prices. Of course the Chicagoland Oasis prices were much higher.

4.05 regular unleaded, med grade 4.19 today california

3.89 for highest 3.51 for lowest here.

What happened to the days where it was just ten cents more expensive for each type? >.>

Diesel for our VW (~40 MPG hwy) has been $3.63 in the last 36 hrs. at a local station.

One of the annoying “features” of gas prices in Chicago, which we were visiting for DD1’s graduation, is that they have a teaser price, like $3.70, which only applies you get a car wash, but the real price is north of four bucks. Crossed the border into Indiana, and the prices dropped over 20 cents even in the highway service area stations.

I saw $3.39 at a station today. The expensive station was $3.49.

I drove from west TN back to Nashville today and saw $3.07 for regular. I gassed up in Memphis for $3.15. Nice!

$3.19 in Merry-land.

$3.08 in Dallas suburb of McKinney

$2.99 Dallas

3.04 in Tuscaloosa, Al today! Yeah!
