Got plant hangers, some plant fertilizer (spending way too much time on Insta plant influencers lately), little plastic plant scoops, a pendant light that plugs in so I can use it as a plant growth light with the right bulb, a non-slip mat for the area rug I just ordered for our bedroom from Lowes, a pair of Lands End water shoes for $15, and H ordered a new Pixel 8 Pro, a bottle of celery seed and a box of Hawaiian Punch grape mix. I spent way less than he did! Am recycling an old fabric bin for my potting mix, and pulled out one of the 2019 Washington Nationals World Series 5 gallon buckets to store plant paraphernalia.
I saw that plant stand, @deecee36, and had looked at it longingly before Prime Day. Don’t have a place to put it where I’d get any sun.
I don’t know why H is so grouchy about plants. What else would I put in the new bay window (besides cats, as my sons would say)? There are seven small plants in our bedroom, ten in my sewing room, and twenty (about half are little succulents) in the kitchen bay window. The kitchen faces north, the bedrooms face east. No western windows, and the southern windows face a wall of 80 ft trees. Even the screened porch is too dark for plants! Our house is a bleeping cave. Of course the plants are concentrated in a couple places, and yeah, they need extra light, which I turn on after H goes to bed. I just want some joy!!
I bought a lot of stuff on Prime Day. So far I have picked up a wine fridge, hand held vacuum, vitamins, hair coloring, household goods, and skin care. Caudalie, a very good French skin care is 20% off. This one particular eye cream is very effective for puffy black eyes. I picked up 2. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NQJFR3D?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
I literally just clicked on my order history and bought everything that had prime day discount.
The sunscreen that changed its formula was the EltaMD Elements one. The Amazon page doesn’t list the new ingredients, but a recent review clued me in to the formula change, and Dermstore’s page listed the ingredients. But the Amazon page did advertise one of the new ingredients, which is among those I have a reaction to.
And if anyone else has a severe Balsam of Peru allergy, SkinMedica Essential Defense Mineral Shield SPF Sunscreen for Face is another option that’s safe. I liked it well enough, but didn’t love it, but if neither the Cotz nor Tizo work for me, it will probably become my default sunscreen. The switch on the Elta product was really unfortunate.
Ok, I ordered that one. Hoping I get it on Friday so I can take it on vacation with us! Curious how much (or how little) each section will hold but at the very least can see myself cutting/cleaning some fresh veggies that MAYBE H would be more inclined to grab and eat cause they are right there, ready to go.
@showmom858 My current Kindle, purchased 5-6 years ago, shows up in my order history as Kindle Paperwhite and looks like the one in your photo. However, the one you bought is not a Paperwhite, it’s just the basic Kindle. I think they changed the name when they redesigned the Paperwhite.
The one I bought my daughter is the newer model of the Paperwhite, is a little larger and has a few more features. I paid $99 for hers, while the same one is now selling for $134. And oddly, I just looked in my order history - thought I bought hers on Black Friday but I got it in October last year. Did Amazon have another big sale then? They must have!
After looking at my daughter’s Paperwhite, I think I’m just going to get the basic one like the one you ordered. I like its smaller size and I don’t need one that’s waterproof. However, I’m going to hold off b/c I think prices will be better closer to holidays. I just googled October 2023 Amazon and they had “Prime Big Deal Days” last October. I can wait until then to see if they have another sale this year. Mine still works, just annoying when syncing books.
So far I’ve only purchased two Color Wow products for my hair:
I also got some phone chargers for my car that work with Apple Play. I looked thru my previous orders but nothing else I normally use or need any time soon is on sale.
I have somehow fumble-bumbled into my slickdeals alerts and successfully turned off the gazillion notifications I was getting! Whew! They were completely flooding my email inbox.
I ended up also ordering some things that are supposed to improve a sagging mattress. We are not ready to deal with replacing the mattress (needs to be done at some point but just can’t deal with it at the moment) so hopefully this can be a temporary fix. Also bought a new band for my apple smartwatch (the cc’er I had lunch with yesterday recommended a few brands) and some other small stuff (shout color catcher for the wash, kitchen trash bags, a small drawer for the keurig cups, etc) Will maybe keep looking since I am home all day while tree work is being done.
I was actually surprised by how much it holds. It’s some trick of nature because they are small enough to easily stack two and fit in a drawer, yet hold so much.
We bring home sunscreen purchased when we travel to very sunny places. Australia and Israel have REALLY effective sunscreen. H won’t use anything else (and he’s generally not at all picky about these things), but he’s had a number of skin cancers removed and so he uses the heavy-duty stuff.
Not to go off topic, but this is a good article to read from NPR: More effective sunscreen ingredients are available abroad but not in the U.S. : Shots - Health News : NPR
“The issue for me isn’t the safety of the sunscreens we have,” he said. “It’s that some of the chemical sunscreens aren’t as broad spectrum as they could be, meaning they do not block UVA as well. This could be alleviated by the FDA allowing new ingredients.”
" The sun protection factor, or SPF, rating on American sunscreen bottles denotes only a sunscreen’s ability to block UVB rays. Although American sunscreens labeled “broad spectrum” should, in theory, block UVA light, some studies have shown they fail to meet the European Union’s higher UVA-blocking standards."
“Bemotrizinol is the bedrock ingredient in nearly all European and Asian sunscreens”
As for sunscreens, please use the ones that are reef safe (in the chance you will be in the ocean). Please don’t use sunscreens containing coral-damaging chemicals like oxybenzone (Benzophenone), octinoxate, etc. Thanks
