Princeton Chances

I’m a senior and for some reason i never thought of applying to Princeton but I looked at their supplement to the Common App. and it’s so cool! I mean, they ask you for your favorite book, favorite quote, and they ask for IB scores which no one else seems to do… So judging from my stats do you think i should bother applying?

Nationality: Czech/Canadian

School: Private international school in the Czech Republic.

Rank: school doesn’t rank, but I’m definitely near the top.

 • GPA 3.8

12th Grade:
I’m taking the same classes as in eleventh grade and my grades are probably the same or better as last year.

Passions:
I am a major history buff! I reach Richard Pipes and AJP Taylor in my spare time, I love the class, and Yale was such an incredible history program that I just feel the need to apply!

 • acted in most of the school plays - large roles.

CR: 800

I took the SATs without studying at all but I studied the math and writing over the summer so those scores should improve a lot in October

Recommendations: should be excellent
Essay: Probably about my rediscovery of Prague and my Czech heritage during last year + will add a little bit about how my grandparents & parents lived under Communism, and my passion for history.

Supplementary Materials: I’m thinking of submitting the abstract from my research paper on the French Revolution. What do you think?

Other Schools:
Brown
Oxford
Amherst
Bowdoin
Bates
McGill
Queens

so i realize that my math SAT score is way below Princeton’s norm. If I got it up to a 650 do you think it would make a big difference?

'Course it would. Retake the SAT. No chance otherwise…I think Princeton’s median for the math section lies in the 700’s.

Ok cool, so you think that if i got a 650 i would have a fair chance?

piratemonkey, nobody has a fair chance at Princeton.
It’s a crap shot for everybody.

well yeah, i know it’s a crapshoot but i meant that if i improved the scores the princeton admissions officers wouldn’t start laughing when they received my application, lol :)

Your problem is your math… Mine is the CR… I got 780M (no revision) but 610CR (some prep, not much practice)… Mind telling me how did you ace the CR?

“I am a major history buff! I reach Richard Pipes and AJP Taylor in my spare time, I love the class, and Yale was such an incredible history program that I just feel the need to apply!”
So you are enamored of Princeton but don’t even take the time to change the name of the other school you love so much? That doesn’t add up. Pardon me if I misread your profile…

Emmm, i never said i was enamored with Princeton. I do like it, and i think i might apply, but I want to study history so I would rather go to Yale (not like i’ll get into either one though, lol). But yeah, i used a similar profile on the Yale board.
