Columbia I guess, as I have a likely letter (but I think I may prefer it to Princeton?) I have other universities in the UK I’m holding offers from. Colby was my actual safety but they rejected me…
The US universities are kind of my safeties for the UK as the offers are conditional in the UK. My 1st choice is Cambridge but the conditions are stringent.
@ByteZz Sorry to hear about UCLA.
@ByteZz I heard UCLA was ridiculously competitive for OOS applicants
Safeties were Case Western, Bucknell, and TCNJ. I got in and like all of them so I feel pretty good!
My current best option is UIUC for Aerospace Engineering. I was invited for CoE honors, too. For Aerospace Engineering, I’ll drop anything for UMich and Princeton. Let’s see how those go. I also have UC Berkeley and CMU on my list for Mechanical Engineering. They’re obviously solid options, but I don’t know if I want to do Mech. I’ll probably have a better idea of where I’ll be heading by the end of the month.
Yeah, and I don’t think applying for engineering helped much. It’s odd because UCLA engineering isn’t actually that great. UIUC, for example, blows UCLA out of the water for Aerospace Engineering.
Also, I forgot to rescind my FAFSA. There’s no mention that UCLA is need-blind, so forgetting to inform UCLA that I no longer wanted to pursue aid may have hurt me.
@ammielove wht r the conditions
Congrats! I also net all of my safeties. It’s a great feeling to know you have a formidable safety net in the unfortunate event none of your reaches extend acceptances.
My safeties were UToronto (EngSci) and UBC (BASc), got into both!
Also, do decisions for Princeton come out on the 30th or the 31st?
30th! All Ivy League universities release their decisions on the 30th.
@icarus29 decisions are March 30th
@grtd2010 who/whats DD?
I applied to a lot of schools I have a solid chance at but I’d call them more matches BC, Villanova, NEU etc
I really didn’t think about schools as “safeties” when I was drafting my list, I only applied to schools that I could want to go to. But the schools that my counselor told me were “probables” were BC, Holy Cross, Union, (all of whom I have heard from and gotten into) and Providence College, whom I have not heard from yet. Honestly, I could see myself ending up at one of my “safeties,” especially BC, even if my “reaches” pan out.
@bluenette23 exactly what I did… I love Villanova and if I got accepted it would definitely be an option even if I got into my reaches
Technically any school for which you in the 50th percentile for testing and GPA is a “match”, but of course some schools are so competitive that no one can honestly say that they are “matches.”
@DryMango same with safeties a lot of people think if you’re in the 75th percentile its a safety but with holistic admissions and below a 50% acceptance rate you really don’t know
@a20171 I feel like we applied to many of the same schools. I have seen you on multiple threads.
12 days, but who’s counting?!
Safety - UCLA (Accepted), UMichigan (Accepted), Georgia Tech (Rejected)
Reach - UC Berkeley (waiting), MIT (deferred then rejected), and Princeton (waiting)
Got into Umich and UCLA for engineering btw (international student)…
