Hi, this by no means is a comprehensive assessment of academic achievements and ECs. This is just a formula to see where we are in terms of class rank, test sccores, and GPA.

Take your SAT I highest verbal and math and add them.

Take your theree highest SAT2 scores and add them.

Add answers to 1 and 2. Then divide by 50.

If you are ranked in the top 1% of your class, add 10.
If you are ranked in the top 5% of your class, add 7.
If you are ranked in the top 10% of your class, add 5.
Dont add anything if you rank outside 10%.

If your unweighted cum. GPA is 4.00, add 10.
If your unweighted cum. GPA is 3.80-3.99, add 7.
If your unweighted cum. GPA is 3.6-3.79, add 5.
If your unweighted cum. GPA is below 3.6, dont add anything.

A perfect score is a 100. You have a good chance if your score is 85 and above. Remember, this is only test scores, gpa, and class rank. Obviously EC, essays, etc, matter too. but try it anyway. My final score is 87.4

I talked to an admissions officer from Randolph macon college and this is the way they used to calculate gpa, sat scores, and class rank. If you ask me, the class rank and gpa are basically the same thing, so how can you get a 10 for top 1% and say 5 for a gpa of 3.65? oh well try it anyway

GPA and class rank should be mixed up. My daughter’s senior class is chock full of outstanding athletes and scholars. The school has never had a class like it before, and there is not one coming up in either the 9th, 10th or 11th grade at the school. Just a phenom I guess of kids born in 1987

MIT uses a formula to convert all your “numbers” into one Numerical Index (NI) that appears on your E-3 form. It’s not THIS formula, though… maybe McGann would know…

94.2 plugging in an estimated 8 for class rank since my school doesn’t rank whatsoever…

Your Academic Index: 229.5
Your AI Rank: 8 out of 9
Your ranking is based on the following data:
