Princeton HUM Sequence

I was recently accepted to the HUM 216-219 sequence and was asked to reserve a space in it by mid-May. However, I don’t know if I actually want to take it because I don’t know what other courses I will want to or be allowed to take in the fall based on placement tests, so I won’t be able to decide until talking with an adviser in August-September. If I reserve a space in this course now, is it a binding commitment, or will I be able to switch to another course in the fall if I decide not to take it? I e-mailed and was told that it indicates that I fully intend to enroll, but it seems a bit early to know exactly what you want to take if you’re a freshman.
Thanks.

You can drop it; however, many students work their schedule around the course. As a first semester freshman, it’s not too difficult to find two other courses that (a) works towards distributions requirements, (b) allow you to explore potential majors, and (c) fit your schedule. Second semester, things can get a little trickier, as you may have a better idea of your major and want to start knocking pre-reqs out of the way.

Nevertheless, if you’re interested, reserve your spot. You can drop in the fall if you want.

Okay, thanks!
