PRINCETON mech engineering?

I am currently a junior. I want to set my goal and see my chances.
First, I am a female asian.
Second, my SAT and GPA are enough for CMU, but not for princeton…
I am taking currently taking: AP calc bc, AP physics
APS WIll take next year: california multivariable course, stat, physics c, comp sci, maybe chem
I was actually thinking of CMU for my ED since I do have a chance, but I found out that the ranking of princeton is lower than cmu for mechanical engineering.
Is it worth it to ed princeton for mechanical engineering? or am I just wasting my ED?

Princeton does not have ed, but they have REA. i cant imagine someone being qualified for cmu but not princeton, especially since cmu has one of the best engineering schools in the country. Either schools are great, and neither would be a waste of early

Although you are asked to write an optional engineering supplement if you’re interested in engineering, you do not apply separately to their engineering school. You apply along with everyone else to the undergraduate school regardless of major. You seem to imply that Princeton’s engineering school being lower “ranked”, you will have a better shot at getting than CMU. I can assure you that this is not the case. Princeton overall has a fantastic reputation and has much better financial aid and it attracts top candidates from all over the country and the world.

Also, I hope you realize that rankings are subjective and when you are talking about the very top schools, you are mostly splitting hairs. Using your logic, USNWR has ranked Princeton the overall #1 school for the last several years, therefore kids who aren’t shoo-ins should choose any other school to apply early to because it would be lower ranked. Fortunately, no one follows this logic. Apply early to a school that you have a realistic shot at getting into and that you would absolutely love to attend. Good luck!
