What are my chances for these 3 reach schools

PS-I plan to take 8 AP classes next year, which is the max you can take in a year at my school. Any advice for what I should over the next year would be truly appreciated. My school is offering new APs in Bio, Music Theory, and Macro, please let me know if those are good classes to take.

You have some good extracurriculars and decent academics (although make sure you take some SAT IIs). Although your list of ECs is pretty short, you’ve developed them pretty well (the piano in particular seems impressive). The only downside is that your extracurriculars aren’t very focused and don’t immediately point to what your intended major will be. So you definitely have a chance, but these schools are all reaches.

You have a shot but your ECs are a little unfocused. It’s impressive how you have a few ECs that are at national level. If you can squeeze in one thing that gets you outside of the US, it will be absolutely amazing.

Take some SAT II and do well. You’re going to be a strong candidate next year when you apply, but be sure to successfully demonstrate your true potential in your essays.

And you don’t need to retake ACT, unless you’re absolutely sure it’s gonna be a whole lot better than your SAT which is already at a decent level for these schools.

They’re certainly reach schools (at least Princeton/MIT). Your academics are decent but not stellar…and coming from a weak school will hurt. ECs are pretty weak for those reach schools. Not really much leadership, awards, etc.

thanks for the input!

any advice on what classes i should take and whether to include the strange grading system at my school would be truly appreciated (it’s also another reason why my school is weak).

Your school sends a school profile to every school that you apply to which includes the grading scale so your grades will be looked at in that context. So you don’t need to worry about doing anything on the application or anything.

Take as many APs as you can possibly fit in your schedule. Basically the most rigorous courseload possible at your school.

is it better to take 2 semester AP classes like Micro and Macro together or 1 yearlong AP class like AP Bio

First criteria is that you take 4 years each of Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. If you have to skip fulfilling your science req to take micro/macro, then AP Bio takes precedence over micro/macro. If they are both extraneous take whichever interests you most. From what I know, AP Bio is a more solid course and credit for it would be accepted at more places. Micro/macro are less established. However I doubt that your choice has any impact at all on your college admissions assuming you do well in either of the options.

Don’ t think of it like that. Take what you like better. Also what do you plan on doing; I can’t tell from your schedule.

Well I want to get into med school, but I’m still undecided for my major.

Potential schedule for next year:
pretty sure I’ll take these
AP Lang/Comp. *LA Req.
AP Stats *Math Req.
AP Psych/AP Gov. *SS Req.
AP Physics *Science Req.
Religion/PE (Mandatory)

I still have two Year long slots to fill and these are the options:
AP Art History-yearlong, i heard the teacher isn’t good though
AP Music Theory-semester, this would be easy for me since I took 3 years of theory for piano which i played for about a decade. however, it will be new at my school next year so I’m not so sure.
AP Bio-yearlong, but it is also new so not sure on quality of class
AP Micro-semester, i heard its easy, would be a perfect complement with…
AP Macro-semester, new course at my school, so not sure of quality
I could also take a study hall, which would not hurt my wGPA like an Honors or lower class would.

bump .

92.5 is an A at your school?! If you go to a public school im suprised that more people dont have 4.0’s

no 92.5 is the lowest A-…it should be less because normal A is 90-100 with 90 being an A-
