@52balletvieta I guess that’s good if you have an A- in a class but if you have a B+ on the other hand, then I can see where that transcript policy hurts. So I don’t think it’s necessarily an advantage (unless of course you’re getting all grades above 90)
@2015mmozzi I got u fam :))))))
haha @MikeJuhuoski I admit that I’m (sometimes) the kind of person who does minimal work to get by for certain classes that I don’t deem useful to me lol. So yeah its helpful for my A-'s but eh, seeing my grade below a 95 is somewhat urking.
@Mrmerchant Lol same English is the hardest for me. But my test scores are all over the place. I did really crappy on the CR section of the SAT 1 (650) but I got a 770 on the writing portion and a 5 on the AP Lang exam. Out of everything in my application, I’m most insecure about my SAT 1 score
@52balletvieta Hahahahaha I think a lot of people are like that though. I think it’s smart not to waste your time on easy “A” or unhelpful classes
@MikeJuhuoski Ah, don’t worry, I’m just scared that they’ll take my 8 essay(I wrote SO badly that morning) seriously and instantly cross my name off the list.
In fact, that reminds me - anyone know how seriously they take the essay?
@52balletvieta Hahahaha when I was younger I thought that all princes went to Princeton and I didn’t realize that there aren’t princes in the US but i legit thought if I went to Princeton I could meet a prince and become a princess haha. But now obviously I like Princeton for many other reasons.
@2015mmozzi I’m also worried because at my school religion is a required class for 4 years and it brings up my UW gpa but i’m afraid Pton will take it out and recalculate my gpa so that it’s lower. Although, not considering religion when recalculating my gpa would raise my weighted gpa so I hope they put more emphasis on that.
@Mrmerchant I’ve heard that poem before! haha
@Mrmerchant Once again, I think your application essays are going to be weighted more why would they judge your writing skills on something you had 25 minutes to write on an arbitrary topic you probably didn’t even care about when they have over a 1000 written words of your most authentic, genuine, passionate thoughts?? :~))))
@CautiousOptimist Gosh! Old Kanye represents everything good in the world.
@MikeJuhuoski Hey now, don’t put words into @2015mmozzi’s mouth. I haven’t seen his transcripts but he hasn’t said anything about his interests other than the fact that he said he did four years of music. I agree that it’s great that he stood his ground to continue to do music, but it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth when you say “you took classes that interested you instead of wasting four years of your life on demanding courses you’re not even interested in.” He was only specifically asking in terms of his weighted GPA, which should be fine when Princeton recalculates the GPA.
Let’s not pretend that transcript rigor is meaningless in the terms of high-tier admissions. Taking an arts class over an AP, especially given that he’s shown commitment to it over all four years, probably won’t hurt his application. But to claim that taking classes that don’t interest you is a “waste” seems to go against the philosophy of a liberal arts education and is almost anti-academic.
@CautiousOptimist You certainly live up to your username haha
@Mrmerchant I try. I just try to remember that nothing’s certain in this unpredictable process, but that at the end of the day, I’ve got as good a chance as any.
@APrincetonian If I am fortunate enough to be offered admission “We Major” will be blaring through my headphones as soon as possible.
High off the ground from stair to skyscraper
Cool out, thinkin we local c’mon homie we major
Edit: In accordance with my superstitions of not wearing any apparel or anything I guess I should probably put this song off my rotation until my next acceptance, be it Princeton or otherwise…
Edit 2: Well, if I am accepted after a deferral this line would be extremely relevant too. Huh, who would’ve expected Kanye to write songs that inspire me to get INTO college?
Feeling better than I ever felt before today (If you feelin good)
But better late than never; it’s orien-tation (It’s orientation)
@dolph1n ahh thats so sweet gah!
Also, I think religion will help you because Princeton itself was founded off religious purposes haha. Any little bit helps!! So I wouldnt be worried about religion being something that drags your app down.
@CautiousOptimist I’m sorry if that left a “bitter taste” in your mouth. I just inferred that since someone would elect to take 4 years of music and art classes, he/she has a genuine passion for it. And I didn’t at all mean to debunk the importance of rigor – trust me I value it very highly; I’ve taken over 10 AP classes at my school. I guess what I was trying to say before was that you only get one chance at high school. So why would you spend your time hours past midnight, completing work in AP Physics C when you could have been completing work you’re more passionate about, such as composing a piece for AP Music Theory? I think this subject’s transcript can tell a lot about what they value. Go ahead and shoot me down for this one, but I think Princeton values personality more than your transcript (don’t start screaming; I have evidence). A white, unhooked girl got in last year from my school who took CP Biology (the second lowest level you can take in my school) when AP Biology was offered. @notprincesston got in last year as well by applying as a joke! In one of her YouTube videos (which have now been taken down) she read some of the “most absurd” lines from her essays. However, these lines were some of the most original, funny, and personalized things I’ve ever heard incorporated into college essays. And I think that’s why you see so many qualified applicants with great ECs get rejected – they don’t put enough of their personality into their applications! Sorry if it sounded sassy in some parts. I really didn’t mean for it to sound that way :~))) I’m genuinely sorry if my other post was worded badly.
@CautiousOptimist . I actually like your honesty about transcript and also feel better about uw gpa rule of pton. Really by taking cut me down 4 ap options (besides of my availability of handling). So far I took only 7 aps including senior year, which is not many for pton applicants. But hope they could see me as passionate abou music than easy class taker, since my gpa is not perfect 4.0 but not that bad.
Also feeling very Hamlet right now- “the readiness is all”.
I’d heard somewhere that some colleges have regional advisors where they take into account the background/country where the applicant comes from. e.g. students in the US have different opportunities than those in Asian countries, and so they weigh their achievements differently. Does anyone know if Princeton does this as well?
@MikeJuhuoski It’s alright, I don’t know if it’s because it’s late or something, I try to be as constructive as possible, everyone here is great and if I overreacted and brought a bit of conflict that’s not what I wanted.
Yes, the passion does seem to be there. I guess while we might slightly disagree on the relative merits of those “other” classes, we both agree that the music should not be a detriment to the other user’s application. Then again I admittedly overextend myself across wayyy too much stuff so I’m probably not the best person to be giving advice about workload. This is the first year I’ve genuinely believed that I overextend myself.
@2015mmozzi Did you really miss 4 AP opportunities? It wasn’t until I was a junior that I started taking a (nearly) full AP courseload. I only took one (AP Comp Sci) as a sophomore. Then again my school likes to do things differently than what I hear from the public schools around me so I don’t really think I know how scheduling is done at other schools. Also I don’t think seven is a bad number either. I’m taking eight including senior year. Then again my school doesn’t offer a whole lot more than I’m currently taking and my schedule wouldn’t really let me fit any more in.
@MikeJuhuoski . It is really great to hear that. Hope college see who we are and how hard we tried to learn so many things from our limited time and choices. I (she) actually wrote about music and orchestra for assay and put solo performance as suppliment as well ( along with my two science research documents).
@52balletvieta thanks! that makes me feel so much better and you’re really sweet too
