Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@cheesewaffles Last year a pton admissions counselor came to my school and said she was the regional counselor for my area and a couple of other areas in the us. If they haven’t changed this in the past year then princeton definitely has regional counselors but i don’t know how much weight they have in the admissions process

I’m drowning out my anxiety by doing all my other apps lol…anybody else?

@CautiousOptimist Aw yay :~)) I was afraid of starting conflict and I was thinking “oh no! I just ruined the peace within this thread!” lol But I’m glad we’re able understand our different views without having a full-out 10 page argument – it just shows how great of a community we are :,) In all seriousness though, I guess “waste” was an extreme word in that post. I just get a little extreme sometimes when it’s really late at night too haha. And I guess it seems kind of silly to debate over this stuff when decisions are only 3 days away and there’s nothing we can do to change our applications now. Anyway, I’m going to bed now. It was nice meeting you and hopefully we can be classmates in the near future :~))) Night!

@dolph1n ahh i see! I hope they have them for internationals too. I don’t have much going for me in the way of my ECs and looking through previous years’ applicants stats, mine look so inadequate.

Anybody have snapchat here??? :^)

@CautiousOptimist . I should put the word "max"4 for some genius, and probably " max 3 "for me. . Again besides of the fact, I could handle those without going to crazy. I admire ones who took more than 10 ap…there are quite numbers who took 10 aps in our school and totally depends on how good you are, which makes me so so humble.

@Mrmerchant yup, pm me :slight_smile:

@52balletvieta I just watched your arts supplement, it’s truly amazing  really rooting for you to get in :3

The tiger statue on the decision page feels so intimidating rn :-SS

@52balletvieta your arts supplement was amazing! makes me so sad that I stopped ballet last year :frowning: :frowning:

@Mrmerchant can I join the virtual hand-holding session?

Does anyone know what SAT II scores are considered “submittable” to a school like Princeton? Since SAT II’s are not required, what’s the threshold for scores that will help you vs harm your application?

@sprinkles11 I don’t think there’s a ‘threshold/cutoff score’, but generally anything above 740 is quite good. 780~800 is in the same range. 800 is of course better but there’s little difference between 780 and 800.

This is solely my opinion so correct me if I’m wrong

@mprut0987 Thanks! That makes sense. Do you think I could PM you my scores to get your opinion?

@sprinkles11 I’m not sure how much I can help because I’m but a high school student >__< I’m glad to help tho!

I’m a tad bewildered.
If 40-50% of those on CC in past years have been accepted to Princeton, it’d make sense that the general attitudes & supportiveness of those here (which is incredible, btw!) would carry over into college.
So how is it that Princeton & the other Ivys get such a bad rap for having competitive or cut throat student bodies? Is it all myth or just a loud minority that suffers this?
I just can’t see most you being anything but supportive & cooperative once in college too. Where’s the disconnect?

@jumbletumbles I’ve been thinking the same thing! It was (pleasantly) surprising to find that everyone on here is so supportive when (in theory) we could be considered each other’s competition. Good to know that human altruism can still exist under these circumstances! (:

I’ve peeked over into a few of the other Ivy hopeful threads & found similar attitudes on most of those too. So really… Where does the disconnect come from???
Is it like the graduate school process (medicine, law, etc) where, by nature of the courses & experiences, people change because of where they are & what they go through? So going to Princeton & having to go through the curriculum causes the change in attitude & personality?

I’m very interested in what everyone thinks. In all honesty, and I know this is blasphemy to some here, Princeton isn’t the first choice over here. 1) BSMD programs are first choice 2) reputation of Ivy cut throat, competitive culture & general depression of student body are big red flags. That said, it is still on our list, just not the top choice. If you guys are truly representative of those that will be starting in 2016, then perhaps re-evaluation needs to happen if eventually accepted.

@jumbletumbles It only takes one bad egg to make an entire carton smell bad. Stereotypes often spread without basis in fact, and Ivy League snobbishness is just one of those things that seem to make sense (many people believe that Ivy Leagues are for spoiled rich kids). Many of these people who believe these things, however, have probably never visited any of the schools. Will there be some pretentious, elitist, ultra-competitive individuals on campus? Of course. But at the end of the day, we’re all just people, and to generalize the actions of a few onto an entire population is not only fallacious, but wrong (yet people still do it anyways, especially if you pay attention to the news).

My interviewer told me that the Princeton student body was super supportive and friendly while she was there for undergrad, and she graduated several years ago. Perhaps Princeton has a bad reputation because of its elitist past and institutions like “eating clubs” and other things, but things have changed in the last several decades. Stereotypes often last longer than reality as well, so while the things you hear from other people about the competitiveness, pretentiousness, and depression of the culture might seem to be true, those statements are most likely antiquated, especially if the person who makes those claims has never visited the school before.

Also, if Princeton actually ends up being cut-throat and self-centered, just know that there will always be people who are in fact supportive and cooperative. But I guess that could be said for any school.

I have mit interview today, which I really wished I would not have to, but could not control the date. But I am super nervous again, just like the pton interview. I am so bad at talking about my self and honestly sometimes I do not know what I am really thinking. College essay made me think about who I am a lot…but still interview makes me uncomfortable. I remember that I could not answer enough or even less than 50% during pton interview and I feel like I am so stupid. Any tips? How can you guys manage it?
