Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

Hi everyone! I have been lurking obsessively on this thread, but I have a question about my application and I figured you guys could help me the most: for the 150 word writing supplement, I wrote about a community service activity. However, I didn’t mention this activity in my activities section on the common app! I feel like this is a huge deal and could for sure cause my application to be thrown away. Does anyone think my mistake will indeed be this huge of an issue?
Best of luck to everyone tomorrow!

@college4444 The Common App only lets you list 10 ECs. Many students have done more than that over the course of 4 years. At least mine has. I don’t think it should hurt your application. Good luck tomorrow! ~:>

Anyone else doing a late night frantic search for more colleges to apply to or is it just our family? :-SS ~:>

We’re battling here 'cause my kid isn’t worried about getting in. He naively thinks his awesomeness will work for him and doesn’t understand there a mountain of awesomes for a tiny pile of admits. And he thinks he wants to go to NYC for the weekend to visit his best friend who is a freshman at Fordham. I’m with you, FarscapeFan.

@collegebound1915 Have you tested logging in from your phone to see if you can get that far at least?

@grandscheme yes, I can log in no problems!

@college4444 As others have noted, most have more extracurriculars than can be named on the Common App. Writing about one you did not list in your ten is actually a good strategy for communicating about that additional commitment.

@collegebound1915-then I expect you will be able to view just fine. You will probably even be able to see the tiger that welcomes those lucky enough to be admitted. Hope you do!

@grandscheme Honestly, it’s my hub and I are who are researching more colleges. Our son is blissfully asleep. He’s taken the “la la la la, I’m ignoring that tomorrow I find out” approach. I wish I could do that. He only had one shot at the SATs, SAT IIs, and ACT and it was this fall and with little prep. It’s the one negative on an otherwise great application. He doesn’t want to go to the state flagship for very valid reasons. We helped him find a good safety, but we’d like something equal to the state flagship and that wasn’t an Ivy. In other words, more matches, less safeties or reaches. There are so many colleges in the Northeast, but you can’t research them all and college selection thingies don’t cover his needs. Sigh. Niche is always our friend, but frell did they get his ps wrong. ~:>

I’m starting to have last minute panic attacks about not having attached an optional resume. I know someone mentioned a while ago that Princeton actually prefers if you don’t send a resume, but is that true? Welp. #Scurred

I’m being kept busy late tonight mainly because I have 3 tests, a quiz, and an in-class essay due tomorrow lol!
My AP Calc test finishes just as decisions come out ugh!

Wishing everyone a great last night before tomorrow (cue ominous music). The one thing that consoles me is that, even if tomorrow does not turn out as I wish, I know that we are all smart people (why else would we be applying to Princeton?!) and we will all, ultimately, do great things in life, with or without an Ivy degree.

My dad went to Princeton and is extremely grateful for his time there and the opportunities it has given him. His friend, however, went to a local school and is now a multimillionaire who just took over a big financial company. It just reminds me that if you have the drive, commitment, and motivation to succeed, which we all do, awesome things will happen. I know that college decisions seem like the biggest deal in our lives now (and they are a huge deal!!), but it’s really not the college that will define the rest of our lives, it’s what we do later!

I’m not really taking my own advice to heart (I’m freaking out too), but I hope this consoles anyone who is stressed. Best of luck, and I’ll see you all on the other side. ~:>

@FarscapeFan-I would think (hope) schools would be forgiving of the one go around with tests given his story. Those tests should be low on his list of worries. HE’s alive. Amen. And yes, there are so many good schools in the Northeast. You could take a lifetime just researching those. I use a few different sources to research. There is a college match program through CC and through CB besides Niche and USNWR, Petersons and Collegeview. Just to give you more to obsess over!

@tigerpenguin-dont worry about the resume. They prefer not to receive them-they really have to be efficient in their application reviews. They knock them out in about 15 mins. No time to go through the extended ECs. If you had included, it wouldn’t be bad but wouldn’t worry that you did not. Do you have outstanding grades in a challenging course load? Do you have top standardized test scores? Have you held significant leadership roles or are you a super athlete? Those are your tickets in. The rest is gravy. Maybe that’s a simplification but they simplify.

@college4444 I agree with the previous responses; I actually am in a similar boat as you. I wrote about being a counselor at a summer camp, but did not list it in my activities. I figured since I already mentioned it that I would use the EC spaces for other things. I don’t think it will hinder our applications, much less cause them to be thrown away (at least I hope not). :-S I would like to think that the application officers will be understanding and realize that most of their applicants have a plethora of activities to list, and therefore cannot include them all.

@college4444 There is no way that will matter, don’t worry about that.

@grandscheme Thank you! ^.^

Oops, almost forgot the chicken.
~:>

today’s the day! (For those of us on the east coast!) ~:>

13 more hours to go, East Coasters. ~:> Hoping you all have good days.

Can’t Sleep  and I was reading the past acceptance threads and everyone who got in had 4.0 , which I am not close to, but my ECs are realllllllllllyyyyy good, anyways, its out of my control, but for comfort, is anyone else in the same boat as me?

This is going to be the last time I check this thread before decisions come out. Thank you everyone here for being so supportive and helpful, I absolutely love the sense of community here along with the inside jokes.

Most of the things I wanted to say have been mentioned by other posters, so I’ll cut this short. I truly wish all of you the best, for today and for other applications. Don’t forget that we are all amazing people with amazing personalities, and Princeton or not, we will succeed in future!

And of course, here’s your daily does of cluck  ~:> ~:> ~:>
