I carefully opened the mailbox in front of my house to find nothing but a small letter addressed to me. Oh god! Wheres it from?! Please not Princeton
please anything but Princeton! I glanced at the return address as my heart sank to the pit of my stomach. Oh no! Its from Princeton!
I sat bolt upright, breathing heavily, sweat pouring down my body. I quickly climbed out of my heavily cushioned pink flowered bed and tried to shake off the nightmare that had plagued my dreams. I had this exact same dream the seven days before, and the waiting was simply too much. I glanced over at the calendar with the crimson numbers perched on top of my desk. It read, December 16th. I simply couldnt take it anymore, the anxiety was driving me insane. Reaching for the phone on my desk, I looked at the clock. 8:20 AM. My decision was supposed to come on the 15th and if I didnt get it soon, I was going to have to wait until Monday the 18th! This, in my mind, was not an option. I dialed the number for my local post office distributor and reached a spunky woman named LaShawnda.
mmmmhmm?
Hi, um, my name is Kate Siegel, and I know this may be a bit strange but I was wondering if you could tell me if there is any mail for me.
Hold on let me see.
Specifically from Princeton University.
mmmhmmm.
The upbeat melody of Rockin around the Christmas Tree pounded in my ear as my heart pounded in my chest. This could be it! I thought to myself. I stared down at the pink roses on the comforter of my bed, waiting for a response. Adreneline coursed through my veins, numbing my limbs and shortening my breath. Click.
Yeah its here.
My heart literally leapt into the back of my throat, making it incredibly difficult to speak.
Uh
OH MY GOD!..okay okay
um is it a big envelope or a small one?
Its a normal sized envelope.
Everything stopped. My heart stopped pumping, a black haze coated my vision, my hearing was muffled, and the adreneline sucked itself out of my blood, making my limbs go limp. Oh no, I thought, Ive been rejected.
Yeah, its 11½ by 13.
Adreneline kicked in again. After about 30 seconds of screaming and dancing on top of my bed I collected myself slightly.
You alright girl? Laughing.
Yes, yes! Oh my god! Can I come pick it up now?! My arms trembled as I realized what was going on.
Yeah sure
want me to leave it for you here?
Yes! Oh my god! Thank you! AGH! Thanks LaShawnda!
I grabbed my parents threw them into the car and drove to the post office where my acceptance to Princeton University was waiting for me. I burst through the doors and marched triumphantly into the room, half expecting a parade. Wah Wah Wah
A line of about ten people stood between me and my letter. I had to know for sure. I stood, waiting, jumping up and down, dancing, shaking, and just basically having a panic attack. Finally I stepped up to the counter.
Hi, I talked to LaShawnda, she said she would hold a letter for me
A young woman looked over at me and smiled. She was the woman working next to the lady that was helping me.
Grinning, Here it is girl!
I practically pounced on her and tore through the delicate white paper.
Congratulations on your acceptance to Princeton University!..
