What’s the breakdwon of Native African Americans to Immigrant African-Americans?

There is a rumor that President Tilghman is planning to transform the African-American Studies Program into a degree-granting department. The continued turmoil at Harvard, the unhappiness of the faculty there (http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=511153</a>) and the friendship between Professor Gates (currently at Harvard) and Dr. West (currently at Princeton), continue to feed the persistent rumors about Gates leaving Harvard for Princeton. They might be unfounded rumors. Gates has stated in public that he has no plans to leave his current position, but the speculation continues. Whether or not Gates joins his friend West at Princeton, the establishment of a full African-American studies department would be a great step forward for Princeton.
