Do you think the same person would have a better chance at :

Cornell with a 4.1 GPA

or

Princeton with a 4.41 GPA

2200 SAT

4’s on 4 AP Tests

Many EC’s

Princeton uses only 10th and 11th Grade when calculating GPA, therefore, the reason for the GPA difference.

I believe neither cornell nor princeton calculates a weighted GPA. They use unweighted…

Strictly statistically speaking, I think you would have a better chance at Cornell. Then again, you could have a great or horrible chance at both schools depending on your personal qualities and ECs.

cornell, pton wants 5s on aps

“Princeton uses only 10th and 11th Grade when calculating GPA, therefore, the reason for the GPA difference.”

??? Is that true? If so then woot! My 3.4 GPA won’t be so bad this year.

I got into Princeton ED with one 3 and one 4 on the two AP exams that I’ve taken… my SAT score was also 2200. Try for both if you can.

I believe they both use weighted GPA’s, correct?

i’m almost positive cornell recalculates your GPA and i thought princeton did too…

they recalculate it with AP’s and honors counting as extra point, right?

I think they recalculate it as an unweighted GPA, but that is just my impression. I doubt that they give extra points for honors and APs because the level system is different at every school.

If Pton only looks at 10th and 11th grade reports, then would a B on the mid-year report hurt me a lot?

Wow… a discussion actually related the original topic.

Take a look at the same thread in the Cornell forum … last time I checked they were flaming about Fascists and morons :p

eeeeh, they were on topic pretty much up until post #30 when prelewd asked “dude why are engineers so good at the sat.” hahaha
