Principal: Too Much Support?

Hi, my name is Joe and I’m applying to Brown early decision.

My question is this–my principal said that he wanted to make a call/send an email/basically contact the local Brown admissions officer to put in a good word for me. Our school hasn’t been that successful in getting kids into top colleges, so my principal said that this year he would be more “proactive” in the college admissions process…my concern is that he might do more harm than good. Do I have reason to be concerned? Or should I be glad that I have such a helpful principal? What are your thoughts? Thanks a lot for your help.

I wouldn’t be concerned. Can’t see where it would hurt, though not convinced it will help. Might help if the principal knows you and your record and uses a soft sell though. . .

I think it is unlikely to hurt your chances. Anything that improves your “name recognition” in the admissions office is helpful. It is possible that an unsolicited contact from your Principal would be advantageous.

True…don’t worry. Be happy.
