Printers on campus? Televisions? Mini refrigerators?

<p>We just bought our daughter a new laptop, and I am wondering where she will print out her papers. I figure we can buy an inexpensive printer at a local store when we get to St. Louis, or are there printers easily accessible in the dorms?</p>

<p>What do current students recommend in terms of dorm-room-appliances?

  • printers in the room
  • are solo TVs needed
  • do cell phones serve as room phones
  • toaster ovens/microwaves/popcorn poppers
  • mini refrigerators</p>

  1. Although printers are available it is a lot more convenient to have one in your room. Unless you get a real buy, just as easy to buy it there.
  2. TV - personal choice - depends on how important TV is to you. Some kids have in room some don’t. TVs avaiable in common areas.
  3. Cell phones seem to take the place of room phones in most instances.
  4. Microwaves & mini fridges very popular and handy to have in room.</p>

<p>In most cases roomates agree on what is wanted prior to arrival and then divide obtaining the desired items.</p>

<p>we got my son a printer/copier and he loves it.
brought tv that is used more for video games/watching dvds
there are room phones and you pay a bit for long distance, but he uses his cell alot!
we bought a microwave and believe it or not…rice cooker that he loves!
mini fridges can be rented I think as can water coolers</p>

<p>what kids LOVE is the laundry service (washu wash)…unfortunately my son is doing his own!</p>

<p>Don’t bother renting a fridge - You can buy a new one for the price that they rent used fridges for. Even if you end up throwing out the fridge after freshman year, at least you had a new fridge in top working conditions. As for Wash U Wash, that service costs $400 for a full year wash & fold service - It’s much cheaper to do it yourself, but if money isn’t an issue, Wash U Wash is convenient. Doing the wash really isn’t a task though… it takes me 30 seconds to throw stuff in the wash, and barely any time to fold stuff (or just throw it in a drawer). It probably takes the same time it’d take to drop off and pick up and put away my wash from Wash U Wash than it does to do my own laundry.</p>
