Printing

Is there a limit to how much stuff you can print via eprint for free?

Not really. I think there is a limit on how many separate documents you can have in the queue at any one time (I tested that out last year) however there is not actual page limit per document. You are encouraged to print double sided though.

Be advised that eprint currently does not work with windows vista. OIT will need to get that working by august though.

Ooo! They better… or else that won’t be too good for me - I’m using Vista.

I am using vista too. In fact I’ve been using it since January. It’s not fun when eprint doesn’t work with vista.

It’s possible that a new policy will come on line where students get 500 pages (free) and can then make a request for an additional 500, then after that there’s some fee. Basically, it would be to cut down on “frivolous” printing.

Ok, but that should definitely be enough.

uh oh Dr. G, looks like printing that whole “Guide to LaTeX” thing might need to be discontinued.

NAH - just means I have to lobby for engineers to get an order of magnitude more printing than others :)

so how exactly does it work? do you print something from your computer and then you can pick it up from any printer on the campus after identifying yourself by using a pwd or something?

Is it black/white or color, or both?

I guess you pick it up from the printing center. It’s free black and white and 50 cents a page color (I think). You can check the OIT site. It has all the info.

you print like you would to a regular attached printer on your computer except you select the OIT-Eprint as your printer. Then you go to an eprint station and swipe your card at the computer terminal. You select your documents and press print. Most stations are black and white only. Libraries have color printing for a fee of like $0.10 per page or something like that. (same procedure applies for color as B/W)
