Private Schools

As the title suggests, this thread isn’t really about UCs, but I posted it here because I wanted to hear specifically from UC applicants.

So, with the UC application process over, I’m making a last second decision on whether to apply to any private schools, most of whose deadlines are in a few weeks. This would include some schools like Claramount McKenna, and also a few prestigious schools like Stanford, just because if I’m already filling out the application I might as well do the little bit of extra work for the additional supplements of a few schools and give them a shot.

I have a few reasons for hesitating. One reason is that I’m honestly feeling too lazy to get recommendations, which can be kind of nerve racking. The UC application has been so stressful itself, I don’t really know if I want to go through it all over, with the added stress of getting recommendations (really quick, too). Also, I feel like the UCs are a perfect fit for me, and I will almost certainly end up at one of them. Although I have a 4.0, I have gotten academic renewal, and many of these schools will certainly not honor it. So I feel like it might all just be a little bit too much work with too little chance of it paying off. There’s only really two schools that I would consider attending over Berkeley or Davis, and my chances at those schools are probably little to none.

My question is, do you guys think it’s worth the extra work, or are chances essentially 0 and I should just wait for UC decisions? I would be more than happy with attending any of the top UCs. Also, what is everyone else doing? Are you guys just applying to the UCs, or are you trying for some extremely prestigious private schools as well? Any input would be great.

It’s up to you to decide if the small chance of getting into those privates you really want to go to are worth the time to fill out the application.

Personally, I didn’t apply to any privates at all because I didn’t want to deal with all the extra requirements for each school in their applications and because I have no interest in paying for private-school tuition. A UC is good enough for me.

Well I only applied to the schools I actually want to attend. 1st they have to be in California. 2nd they have to have the subjects I am interested in with good departments. For this reason I only applied to UCLA, Berkeley, USC. As for prestige, besides those three schools only Stanford is nationally well known.
