Private Schools

We all know that public universities prefer to accept in-staters and are harder on out-of-staters, especially the UCs.

But are private universities the opposite, in that they are biased against people from the same state and prefer OOS to increase their campus diversity?

It really has more to do with how many students are applying from a specific school than being more biased against ppl from in state or biased inf avor of ppl from OOS.

I thinkt he way u can put it is, OOS are more favored in admissions at Private schools than at Public schools but does not mean that In Stater’s recieve any less consideration than they would at a public school.

What tends to affect in stater’s more at private schools is there is generally an overwhelming number of applicants from the same high schools which leads for the University to accept less of them.

Depends, If you live in a city where the university is situated, the town-gown relationships are good, you can easily get great financial aid and of course easier acceptance rate because they compare you exclusively to the average accepted person’s profile and place you in competition with other students in the same highschool that are applying too. Thats what I’ve learned growing up next to Harvard…
