Not only is it possible, but how probable would it be to read REA, do the practice tests, and learn how to attack the essay questions, US History in a week to a week and a half (in a regular, rigorous US History class)?

I think it’s very possible and probable. I took AP US as a sophmore and did basically what you described. I crammed for the exam in a week. I knew nothing before I started cramming. I didn’t do a thing in the class prior to the AP. I pulled off a four, but if I tried a little harder, I’m sure I could have gotten a five. I used PR though, not REA. PR is about half the size of REA, so it would obviously take a little longer to read the REA.

How would I practice the essays?

Well, hopefully the review book would give you some good suggestions on how to format your essays in an effective, persuasive manner. I would just get old FR questions from the College Board and do those. The selection of topics tested in the FR section is so broad that it’s best just to know how to format your essay, and study all topics as if they were multiple choice (in-depth, of course). That way you will cover all areas necessary, but also be able to write a decent essay.

I hope that makes sense.

Any other opinions?

I used a similar method.
1.5 Weeks Before the Test: Sparknotes SATII US History, Barron’s Practice Multiple Choice, 1 DBQ, 0 FRQs, my common sense = 5

APUSH is honestly one of the easiest tests…I don’t get all the fuss about it.
